Hi all

I didn't see a VX forum in the redesign (BTW, good job Pete y) ), so hope this is in the right place :)

I still have a couple of details to sort out for my honeymoon in September - the main one of which is getting to LAS from SFO (dep SFO 27/09/10, dep LAS 30/09/10)

All the direct carriers (VX, SouthWest, United and US) seem to be pretty much the same price at $90pp each way coming to around $460 total inc taxes (when VX and Southwest released their fares recently they started at $56pp each way, but we missed them :| ).

Jet Blue are much cheaper at $55pp each way coming to around $305 total inc taxes, but involve a stop over in Long Beach - taking around 3.5hrs (afternoon flight) in total against 1.5hrs direct.

Baggage is also a consideration - we'll have at least 1 large suitcase each and I don't really want to pay for them!

So, which airline do you recommend?
Is it worth hanging on to see if the ticket prices go down (there you go, that's the Yorkshireman again)?

TIA

Cheers

I imagine most of us would suggest VX, especially if the prices are very similar. I can't think I have read a bad report about VX and the levels of service both on the ground and in the air. Our flights with them have been excellent

The Southwest fare will include 1 x checked bag per pax, where as the others will charge, although WN have the Easyjet/Ryanair boarding procedure, whilst VX you can choose your seats at the time of booking.

Not sure if on the return you are connecting to the VS20, but one thing that meant we chose WN this time instead of VX was the flight times. The VX flight was either a really early one, or one that only arrived with an hour or so to spare before the VS20. WN had many more flights, and much better gaps for connections, so might be something worth considering.

I must admit that I'd like to try them - I like the reports I've seen.

As always, price is key - so this is a major benefit to going with them :)

TBH, I'm not really bothered about particular seats - if direct it's only 1.5hrs, and if non-direct the 2 flights are only just over an hour each :)

Nope, we'll be stopping in SF for 3 further nights before coming back on the BA286 - VS lost us for this one because comparable flights were over £300 more expensive :)

I just booked one way flights to Palm Springs from San Fran - the economy cost per person was $90, First was $204. We'll have at least two bags each (thank you Virgin) so when I looked at the fact that First lets you check two bags, I realised on UA that the difference was $30 each. Guess what I took ii) .

I know weddings are a lorra lorra money, but will the same be attractive on VX or another?

200 bucks, wow, that's a pretty good fare, even for a UAX flight. Definitely worth it if you're checking bags. It would usually be around twice that.

Yeah, I can see that :)

Didn't quite understand that one to be honest B) ?|

Anyroadup, the deed is done - didn't fancy the extra time on JetBlue, and so for $402 total we're booked on WN :)

Now, if I could just get a subject to come up in the Itineraries forum.....
