I know this is going back some years but I did like the fact that Virgin used to hand out free glossy mags at departure for all passengers? Do they still do this?
There is a selection of newspapers etc at the gate but I get the impression there is not one per person and they rely on people not picking them up or having bought their own in Smiths !
Huzzah for International Jet-setting !
If you wan't one, you better get to the gate early. Not sure where you are flying from but at LGW I know they have about 15 copies of each. There's selection of T3, Hello, Daily Mail, The Times, wallpaper* so there's enough to get through... as long as you get there early!
We were among the last to board a couple of weeks ago, and there was still a pile of Daily Mails, Hello and some other glossy magazines for anyone to help themselves to.
There was also an Evening Standard dispenser on the way up to the gate area, but that was empty. n(

Sorry to resurrect an ancient (relatively) thread, but I wanted to find out whether there are magazines in the Clubhouse (LHR)?
And if they are free to take away and on to the plane?

Yes there are magazines in the CH, but they are meant to be kept in the CH.
Thanks,

Are they?

I have taken a few with me onto flights, never had a problem.
The paper/magazine selection seems to be getting smaller each time I go though.
Also to add to the original post, always seems to be copies of The Economist at the gate.
I passed through the clubhouse last year on European Champions League final day. There was a pile of Final Programs left in the TV area for guests. Imagine my surprise when I found that one had fallen into my bag when I arrived in NY.

Clubhouse mags depend on who's provided them in bulk on the day and they certainly are for taking with you. Usually you get Hello, and a stack of Business Traveller, and then assorted odd other mags. At the gate there are often Warehouse type mags, newspapers, more Hellos, and some others and when I get there from the clubhouse after most people have boarded I usually see some left.
But, as said, the selection is not great. However I would not be embarrassed at all about taking what you see with you.

There's a plane at JFK, to fly you back from far away
all those dark and frantic transatlantic miles

When we used LGW CH Thursday 17th Feb going out on a 1pm flight, there weren't any magazines available, only a couple (& I mean a couple) of papers left.
However, the CH was VERY busy when we entered, even the staff couldn't beleive how busy they were.
When we got to the gate, there were no papers or mags, but we were towards the last to board on a stacked flight.
I expect there were a few papers in PE & UC, I can't remember, I'd lost Miss Behavin' & Miss Understandin', 2 twentysomethings between the gate & the plane! :0
