Hello,

First off - great website and lots of valuable information.

I was playing with the VA iPhone app this morning and saw 'VS9910' operating from IAD -> MAN. It was an A346 and I was simply wondering what it was doing? Using your A/c database tool I've also found out it's now operating VS813 from MAN to MNL which has puzzeled me even more. It's 'Silver Lady,' - G-VFOX.

Anyone with any ideas?!

Thanks,

Mike

Firstly welcome to the site.

It will more than likely be a charter flight. Quite often VS lease out for one of flights, like for cruise companies etc.

I think I saw a MAN - MNL - MAN flight last week as well - perhaps they are ferrying someone back this week...

Interestingly, apparently G-VSUN has been out in MNL since 14th July - I can't possibly believe that - has the aircraft database here got stuck?

Isn't some airbus maintenance done out in Manilla?

VS contracts A340 maintenance from Lufthansa Technik and this is performed in Manila. As has been noted before, at odd times VS 747s go to AMS, because 747 maintenance is sourced from KLM.

And I saw somewhere that Manchester United (a football team I belive) have been playing in the USA so that may explain the IAD - MAN route

That makes sense (the maintenance) - I suppose they will then go back to MAN to get re-painted in the lovely new scheme :)

Probably find that SUN will head back shortly after FOX arrives - likely using the same flight crew - for efficiency.

The other often used trick for positioning the Airbuses to MNL is to do it via VS200/201, swapping aircraft in HKG - the initial aircraft flying the first sector is swapped for a second aircraft fresh from maintenance during the HKG stopover. The initial aircraft is then positioned to MNL by a positioning crew.

Wouldn't have been Manchester United as they have an exclusive agreement with Turkish Airlines, there have been some pictures floating around a.net of a TK 77W with MUFC stickers at MAN.

It was Manchester City that were brought back by VS.
