Hi All,

1st time poster, member for a year or so I think (use it as a trip planning resource).

Any how, I'm planning on flying to NYC from London Oct 2 or 3rd returning the following weekend. I have a free companion ticket via my Virgin cc and a healthy amount of miles that I typically use for upgrades from PE to Upper on the day/or few days before when they are available.

On this trip I'm looking at bringing a good friend and I'm trying to figure out the most economical way to bring him along in PE preferably. I'm looking to keep the cash outlay to 1200 GBP (max amount my company will pay for my ticket)

I've read on the forum that the best use of a companion ticket is w/ a purchased S class ticket. Can I check the price of S class on the virgin site (is it the fully flexible PE option which looks like 2200 GBP) or can I only run through the options on the phone. If that's the cost I'll probably have to consider an upgradeable econ ticket, use of companion ticket and miles to upgrade us both to PE or just using miles to get his ticket outright.

Any other options or insights appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi and welcome,

You can price up an S fare on the Virgin site now, using this page.

You are right that an S fare is usually the most economical way to use an companion voucher, but do check that 2 k's doesn't work out cheaper still.

Just a point about buying an econ ticket and companion, you wouldn't then be able to use either miles or cash to upgrade the companion ticket, that isn't allowed.
