Hi everyone. Just wondered if Virgin have aircraft scheduled for each route or do they just determine a certain aircraft type and use whichever aircraft is available based on current operations?

I'm travelling on the VS075 MAN-MCO on Saturday and am curious as to which aircraft I'll be on and which type of IFE I'm likely to have onboard.

I work at MAN and have been happy to see the new colour scheme lately, all the newly painted aircraft having the Odyssey system installed. Can anyone give me a verdict on the Odyssey and Super Nova IFE systems?

Thanks very much in advance for your help!
Paul :)

You would get that listed under the 'schedules' in the toolbox for your particular flight.

You could see if there was a pattern by looking at the last few weeks / months BUT as they say in finance adverts - past performance is no guarentee for the future! Plus in these more security conscious days that info won't be released in advance.

For Oct / Nov the VS75 on a Saturday has been operated by both V-Roy and V-Gal but the only way you will know is when you are at the gate and can see the registration.

Regarding the IFE systems.

Odyssey is better than Nova but neither compare to V:Port I'm afraid. Odyssey does have games on it, Nova doesn't.

Nova is prone to problems on the 744's in certain sections of the A/C (I believe the very front section of economy is the main bad area for non-functioning Nova IFE's) so if you are flying economy you might want to avoid this section. I think it is because their are just too many seats for the system to cope with.

If you have never used V:Port you will probably find Odyssey quite reasonable (although it is quite easy to crash it if you try and move though the menus too quickly)

Personally, I think VS's choice of films has been very poor of late, so you might want to take a back-up with you (phone/iPad/lap-top etc) just in case.

The Nova system has recently had some TLC and now works fine in ALL sections of each aircraft, that was sometime ago (2 years) there were problems but now VS are on the ball.

Although Oydessy offers games the system still relies on the old system of video cassettes being loaded manually so the video quality can sometimes be poor depending on the tape head and the tape its self.

Personally I prefer the digital system of Nova with really clear picture qualtity and better sound.

Both systems work on a loop system so in that respect there not on demand. I would prefer a Nova system flight over Oydessy.

that said when i flew back from MCO on board G-VLIP at the end of April my seat back TV (28C in the front of economy) turned it's self off for the safety demo, and kept switching on and off by it's self all the way to LGW.
