One of our guys at work returned from MCO on saturday, at DTD were advised that the flight had been overbooked by approx 100 pax :0
They were offered incentive of reverting to the LGW flight and being bused back to MAN, with a voucher for a return, single leg flight on any VS route or 50'000 miles. :?

They did decline, however makes you wonder how VS got in that position in the first place v(

Are you sure this wasn't the 12th? I read over on The Dibb about this and they were stating it was the 12th?

We were on the MCO VS76 flight on the 13th, and both flights were operating (76 & 74) and they were both full. Whilst we were checking in at the UC desk at MCO, 2 guys at the PE desk were complaining that one of them had been downgraded to Y from PE. I mentioned about the over booking issue to the agent and she said it had been a nightmare trying to accom the previous days pax, but they should get everyone home.

Apparently it was 190 pax over booked, which is a super high number, I don't honestly know how VS got themselves in to this situation. The only thing I can think is that usually the VS73/74 operates on a Friday also, and they sold planning to operate it, but then never ended up doing so (only the VS75/76 operated on Friday).

Air Miles freaks love situations like this, and I know of many who (despite having lounge access) go to the gate super early to volunteer to be bumped. It means: a serious cash voucher and/or a big chunk of miles, and/or an upgrade for next flight.

One mans nightmare is another's opportunity!

Yep..April full, we would of gone... but now won't/can't - example of lost revenue there must be many many more..
Flights getting overbooked now and full up nearly 6 months into the future...

Must be fairly obvious that MAN is a cash cow.. ?|

I would have suspected as virginboy said that it would have been an LHR config, this happened once when I used to check it in and I can honestly say it was a complete and utter nightmare. If it was still a 744 though someones clearly cocked something up somewhere!

The new a/c that MAN will be the first to get next April will have a brand new IFE that will be top notch.

VS knew about the overbooking problem weeks ago, people on The Dibb had received calls before they were leaving the UK asking them to move to Gatwick for their inbound flight.

At the time they were offering £50pp plus connecting flights to MAN, no doubt some accepted but, according to the posts I read, many didn't. No doubt that changed when they were made a more 'suitable' offer on the day.
