Hi guys, I need your advice (again! I will give something back, honest- I've made a note in my diary to post trip reports on my forthcoming flights!!)

I completed a flight in October. It was a PE fare which I upgraded to UC with points. As a result my FC number wasnt tagged to the booking and the miles, and the tier points , haven't hit my account.

Having already renewed my gold card this year, and having had only 40 points in the last calendar year so nowhere near any sort of 'tier above Gold', I was planning to hold out until my membership renews in January when the tier points reset to zero then put in my claim.

If I do that, will my tier points count towards my next renewal, or will the system be too clever and note it was an Oct 2010 flight?

Thanks!!

An important thing to remember, when using the phrases VS and systems you cannot use the term "clever", if I were you I would do exactly what you have planned, wait till you renew the do the claim, you may as well have a little head start on the next year.

I may be wrong, but whenever I have claimed missing miles, they are dated on the actual flight date in my FC account, so I'm guessing that any TP's will go as part of last years tally and not towards this year.

It certainly won't harm to do what you are thinking, it might work but I would be prepared that it may not also work.

If you could let us know what happens it will be useful for future information.

Thanks,
Neil

I'm afraid there will be no benefit to you waiting to have your miles credited, or tier points for that matter.

As implied above, the tier points will be credited for the date of travel, and the system will calculate them as such - so even if you waited the 6 month maximum before claiming, they would still be date stamped with the flight date, not the claim date.

Great, I'll hold out till Feb and try it then- I'll make sure I let you guys know what the result is.

:D After I submitted I remembered all the posts I've seen about 'systems down' and wondered if it was the right turn of phrase!!

I agree with Neil's view - whenever you do the missing miles thing, the actual credit of miles/tierpoints will be dated on your account on the actual dates of travel, and not when the claim was entred - that's been my experience anyway.

Having said all of that, it's worth a try isn't it!!!!! Just don't forget to do it!

I think the reply from iGuyHD, who works for VS, confirms what we thought and the TP's will be credited for the date of your flight and will not then be part of your next years TP total.

Actually, I would just like the 2 sets of miles I sent in a few weeks ago credited to my account please.

Why don't you do it online or phone Flying Club then?

Aww my plan foiled! But thanks for letting me know- I hadn't read your post when I clicked reply btw, which is why my reply looked so counter-intuitive!!

I promised Neil I'd feedback on the results of this experiment!

It is, as expected, as iGuyHD suggested- the time stamp was for last year, so the miles and tier points hit last year's balance, and thus the tier points were worth two-fifths of b*gger all...worth a try though!
