Planning a leisure trip to China in the Autumn; Shanghai, Beijing and Xi'an on the itinerary. Just wondering how the LHR-PVG route is doing.

There are currently only UC sale prices to Tokyo and Delhi, but none for Shanghai. Anyone with any experience note anything about the frequency of PVG UC sale fares in previous years? Prices currently around £3K and it would be nice to shave a little bit off that before booking.

There's a recession on.

;)

Hi Justin, as to frequency of sales I'm not sure. IIRC the last PVG sale was at £2300 although that must've been at least 6 months ago. Although tax has gone up significantly I did purchase a sale fare in 2008 for £1599 so given the prices nowadays the route has picked up a lot since then.
If you're happy to pay £3k then I'd say hold off at least for a while. I can't imagine the Z prices going much beyond that.

£1599 is incredible! Can't imagine being lucky enough to see those fares ever again, although they are close to that for Delhi at the moment.

I'd be happy enough with £2300. I'm guessing that the increasing importance of China as a business destination these days is filling seats.

So we've decided to ditch Virgin this time in favour of Emirates!

LHR-PVG via DXB is going to save us the tidy sum of £1400, plus the added benefit of being able to make the return trip from Beijing saving us another domestic flight.

Never flown with Emirates before but am quite excited. Slight flying club mileage opportunity cost, but think it will be worth it.

Really looking forward to trying out the bar!
