I am flying out to SFO in September from LHR. As I'm new to v-flyer I've been investigating the Toolbox, and thought I'd try and determine which aircraft I might be flying on.

According to the Seat Map in the VS booking management, the 747 flying me that day has UC/Eco upstairs in the bubble (which is standard for LHR right?). As far as I can see from the Aircraft database there's only one 747 with this seating configuration; Lady Penelope.

Does this mean that Lady Penelope is the only 747 that flies out of LHR? Or are the seat maps in the Aircraft Database a little unreliable?

Or am I missing something...

Ahhh okay that makes sense. I was looking at the schedules history on here for Sept last year and saw that VHOT VBIG VWOW and VROC had all been operating this route but it confused me that when I looked on the Database they appeared to be configured for LGW/MAN.

Thanks for clearing that up :)

Yes, the a/c database is slightly out of date, as some of the LHR 747's still show the old config with an all UC upper deck, we will try and update as soon as possible.

The VS website has also been updated now with the removal of the config 3 744.

Config 4 is such a mistake!

You wont be able to guarantee what aircraft you will get, but can get a good guess by using the tools :)

No, same seat pitch as downstairs, and from the few reports we have had, it feels very cramped with a 3-3 config for Y upstairs.

The front row of the Economy seats in the bubble looked like they had a fair bit of room but the rest looked a bit cramped.

The front seat are an exit row, and whilst I do not know for certain, imagine these will be the same as the other economy exit rows and incur a charge.

I flew in Y in the bubble recently and they would not allocate any seats in row 75 in the bubble. They came up as U ( Unassignable? .. Unusable? ) on the check-in assistants screen. I was assigned 76H in the second row.

When we boarded, I found out that row 75 was U because there was no IFE fitted so they would not allocate them for love or money. And I offered (money that is :) ). The great thing was that I could take 75H and have more legroom than in J, and on a shortish flight - to JFK - I wan't bothered about the IFE.

This was on 17th Jan on Mustang Sally VROC. (Which reminds me that I ought to do a trip report - I did take notes. :| )

I'm not sure if they plan to add IFE to those front row seats in the bubble. Then they would be allocated as a normal exit row.
