Hi to you all. What a lovely site and what fun folk you all are.I have spent far too long lingering over all your pics today and have really enjoyed!
My two Virgin experiences have been from MAN to MCO....some years ago l might add!
First trip was in PE when l think the flight was operated by a dutch airline although bearing the Virgin Logo...please do correct if l am wrong!
Second flight out of Man was again to MCO when four of us were lucky enough to be upgraded to Club Orlando...oh what fun that was!
I am now approaching my 60th birthday and looking to celebrate the occasion in Las Vegas.
So then...plan so far is to fly to SFO from LHR. Domestic flight with Southwest to Vegas...then return to MAN direct.
All bets are off for this trip and it has to be UC return.
I would really appreciate any and all advice here that one and all can give me please.
I have no idea about ticketing...as in J Y Z etc...just wanting to have an enjoyable vacation and travel in comfortable style.

As this is my first post on here....please be gentle with me.

With Many Thanks

Welcome :)

I've learnt so much over the years from this site & have had hours of fun, or should I say wasted hours on here ;) when I should have been something more productive.

When are you wanting to fly, how many pax & are you flexible on dates?

Have fun

Hi and welcome to V-Flyer. I hope you will continue to enjoy the site

With regard to your future birthday plans they sound like fun. It is a good choice to go via SFO and fly onwards to Las Vegas from there. Many of us do that either with Southwest but also Virgin America is a very popular option and if you are a member of the Flying Club you will get VS miles on them.

If you are wanting to travel in UC then the cheapest fare code is a Z fare. This is non-changeable or refundable. J is the highest fare and generally used by business people who may want to change their flights at a moments notice. I notice that you are intending to return to MAN from Las Vegas. Please be aware that the UC cabin in that aircraft has only 14 seats which can get snapped up very quickly and you may need to be flexible with your dates.

I'm sure others will come along with their own suggestions so enjoy the planning

hello and welcome

I hope you plan to spend at least a couple of days in San Francisco before you head up to Vegas as it is a lovely city and well worth a visit.

When you book your VS tickets you need to do it as a 'multi city' trip rather than as two single journeys - it will be much cheaper.

Hello and welcome!

I highly recommend using Virgin America from SFO to Vegas - a fantastic experience even if it's only a 90 minute flight.

Either way, have a fantastic trip!

Hi

Sounds like your first flight was on a 747-200 and was one of the ones operated by Air Atlanta (I think). Club Orlando out of Manchester was great, I remember being upstairs in these huge seats and counting 4 windows between us and the next row :D , you could have had a party in that space y)

Enjoy your birthday trip !

I did SFO to LAS in November using Virgin America and was very impressed. Very good service, check in very smooth and as previously mentioned, a few extra miles for your flying club.

SFO is a fantastic city, I would say 3/4 days is all you need there, plenty to see and do in that time and the locals are very friendly.

Vegas doesn't really need any introductions, you will love it!!!

Have a fantastic trip.

Damn right you should go in style. You didn't say when you're planning to travel, but here are some tips:

- Upper Class fares are Z, R, D, and Z in ascending order of price and flexibility, Z being the cheapest but most inflexible
- so if you know your dates and can fix them now, you want a Z fare
- but these of course go first since they are the cheapest, so do plan ahead
- LAS can get busy in Upper Class due to the small 14 seat cabin on the 747s that fly to LAS, so again, best to plan to book early
- look through the Trip Reports section here and search for VS19 (LHR-SFO) and VS85 (LAS-MAN) reports for lots of clues and advice (there'll be more for the VS44 LAS-LGW though which will also help, just not with arriving into Manchester, but I guess you know the score there)
- predicting sales is unreliable, and often LAS doesn't feature because it's a popular route, the advice here is if you see a fare and think it's OK, book it, then don't look back
- do you have Virgin FC miles? If so, some have reported good Miles Plus Money (MPM) fares to the West Coast of the US recently, worth having a look?

Hi Classlass,

Like you i will be reaching that magical number in a few weeks.
We are off to Vegas in September, having been many time before but can't stay away, it has everything for us and more. I cannot comment on the flights from Man as we normally go from LGW and we did the drive from SFO to Las a couple of years ago.

So anything else you need just post here I am quite sure the good people on this site, will give you so much information, they are a fountain of knowlege.

Hello Everyone,

Thank you all very much for the many replies and wealth of information.
This trip is just DH and myself. I have been to SF before way back in 1971! But this will be a first for hubby so we plan on three nights there before Vegas.
Thanks for the tip on Virgin America, their prices compare very well and l would prefer to use them.
We shall be travelling end Oct/early Nov and having checked the Virgin website our dates and UC are available at the moment, although we can be flexible.

I am sure l shall have more questions between now and Oct!
Thanks Again :)

Indeed I am from t'north and even further North than Hull so proper North ): ):

Lots of people say 'up' when they mean 'going' people say they are 'going up to London' even if they are travelling South, West or Eastwards. Even the lovely people in Walford go 'up west' which must be geographically impossible...

But back to the OP, any Q's about your trip just ask.
