Could someone please let me know if there is reward availability in Economy or Premium Economy?

I was going to fly solo to SFO for a wedding (and have a J class ticket on BA) but now that the Mrs can attend too, am thinking of cancelling the BA flight & booking a companion ticket on Virgin instead.

Any thoughts/strategies from seasoned V-flyers appreciated!

PS - does having Au status help with reward flights? I recently hit Au! :)

The only way to check reward availability is to do a dummy booking on the VS Web site - Virgin does not release these to flight search tools. Go into the VS Web site and try to book for your dates selecting "use miles" as the option.

Being Au gets nothing here - unlike some airlines VS does not old back redemptions for top tiers.

Hello and welcome to V-Flyer.

Unfortunately the tool most people on here use to check flight loads does not show reward inventory. You can do this only by logging into your FC account and trying a dummy booking. There is no separate inventory for Golds.

Please be aware that, even if there is reward availability your paid fare will need to be in Y, B or L in economy or W or S in Premium to be able to use a companion fare. There is a tool on Virgin's website that allows you to search by fare class, rather than the one on the homepage.

Sometimes, you can buy two inflexible fares cheaper, so you need to do your research. Economy redemptions are generally not good value, as the taxes and surcharge element is high compared to the fare
