Have just booked a trip to the US for May next year, using MCO (ex-MAN) as a gateway and have been met with a 'not available' tag for seat selection. Now being so far ahead I can't believe for an instant that the 60% has been reached, but don't have another viable reason for the non-availability. Any ideas people?

I'm assuming you are flying PE on the VS73/74? as the LGW/MAN 747's are getting refitted and a new config starting from April 2012, you wont be able to select your seats until OLCI. This is because they wont know if it will be an a/c with the new config (which will include a larger downstairs PE section along with the bubble) or one of the existing ones. The seat numbering is going to change on the new configs and that is one of the main reasons it's just not possible for them to offer pre-selection.

The only good thing is that everyone else is in the same situation, so you'll just have to be quick at OLCI.

Is it P/E, if so they can't allocate seats as only some of the 747 fleet will have been refitted by then and it looks like the biggest change in seating is in premium.

Until they know what planes will be allocated, they don't know what seat maps are available for each flight

Sorry Neil, I should have said VS73 and PE. Now that you mention it, I do remember reading a thread about this. Must have been having a CRAFT moment when I posted :D .
