Quick question... I have a multi-leg trip coming up and the last part is from Manila into Singapore, with a 1 hour 10 minute gap until my connecting flight back to LHR. I was told by our corporate travel department that this was plenty of time for the connection, and both legs are with SG which means that I assume it would all be within the same terminal. I'm also assuming that any luggage would be checked through as it's a single PNR.

But I'm still nervous - there are reasons why I simply can't afford to miss the connection, so was wondering what other people's experiences were with connections through Singapore...

It's also my first time travelling business class with Singapore - would be interested in people's thoughts on how it compares to VS UC...

thanks

Hi RC, I sometimes fly J with Singapore on the A380 back from Oz and love the space, food and service but actually think the bed is less comfortable than Virgin. I usually have about 80 mins in Singapore which is fine if you don't need to change terminals. However, Flights do get delayed/cancelled and if is important to be home you may want to leave yourself more time.

A couple of years ago i flew LHR-SIN-KUL with only 65 minutes connection time in SIN. Before i booked it i spoke with SG about the short connection and they advised me that they would only sell a connecting ticket if you can make the connection, and if for some reason you miss it they will reschedule you at no cost.

As we came into land the crew who knew we had a connection told us the gate we had to go to for our connection and to be ready to leave once at the gate and they got us off first, at the air bridge was another member of staff to escort us to our connection in a different terminal.

None of the gates are more than 3-4 minutes from the airtrain, which runs every 2 minutes and takes 2-3 minutes between terminals. All in all we did it gate to gate in about 10 minutes, i was very impressed.

When we got to the connecting flight it was fully boarded but the crew told us they would have waited for us as they knew we had arrived on our connection. A definite bonus of booking a through ticket on the same PNR with the same airline.

Overall unless the inbound plane is delayed for some reason which you can't cater for, you will make the connection.

SIN is one of the most efficient airports i have ever been too.

Oh and yes the luggage made it also both ways ! :)

PS was travelling in Y as well.

SQ J - you're in for a treat!

As long as you're not too tall (the pitch isn't the longest around, something like 55") the hard product is absolutely superb (if you're tall I think you'd need to bend your knees to sleep). The seat is very wide (something like 10" wider than UC).

And if you're on the A380, it's really quiet.

Sit back, order a Singapore Sling and enjoy!

Thanks all, in the event, I have come to my senses and decided that however small the risk, it's not worth the earache, public flogging, divorce etc that would ensue were I to miss my final leg back to LHR. So have ajusted my plans to take Manila out of the picture and just stick with Singapore this time round. Sounds like the 380 will be a good experience anyway... although 55' pitch sounds wrong - thats only 4 and a half feet!

Shame you'll miss the Philippines, lovely place. I would have gone with the connection time, SIN is very efficient and SIA is very organized.

Well I certainly look forward to seeing any design clever enough to make a 55' pitch long enough for my 6 foot body! I can see that the seats are very wide which would help.

It was a bit of a wrench to knock out the Philippines, but however efficient things are with SIN/SIA, there would always be a nagging worry that something was going to go wrong. I would never be forgiven for missing my holiday connection at LHR the following morning!

In the meantime, just completed OLCI and got a pathetic SEQ 106 for my flight to LHR tonight. Good job I'm not competitive like some of you lot...
