We fly to Europe three or four times a year and being shortish journeys l don't take any make up etc in my hand luggage.
I have just purchased a BAA approved clear plastic cosmetic case that contains various clear bottles. I only wish to take cleanser, moisturiser and basic ingredients for a re- make up before landing in SFO.
So to the security questions.
Am l correct in saying that this will have to be placed directly on to the tray for screening, also, my I Pad and I Pod have protective casing, does this have to be removed or can they go on to the tray as they are.
Simple question l know, but l get really rattled when folk present themselves at security and then start unloading their carry on.....l like to be prepared!
Any other tips gratefully appreciated.
Thank You

When you go through security in the UK, place your iPad and bag of liquids in a separate tray to everything else. Your iPod will be fine staying in your bag.

When leaving the US, your iPad can stay in your cabin bag as the TSA do not require them to be screened separately.

Neither had I until the other week when I got a long condescending lecture about having to take it out of the bag by BAA.

They then accused me of lying when I said I'd never had to take it out of my bag before. Charming people.

Some TSA agents think travelers should remove the iPads and tablets (Kindles, Playbooks, etc).

Rule: Not to remove
Easier: Remove and set next to laptop in bucket

I've read the rules, but some TSA and UK security staff think and act differently, and so I always take my iPad out and put it in the tray with my laptop.

Oh I agree. :) I just rather avoid the "Rule says I don't have to take it out" talk with a TSA agent. TSA agents tend to be on power trips. I personally prefer not to talk to them. They tend not to be the sharpest pencil in the bunch...
