Hi all, here`s hoping you are all well and enjoying the recent warmth of UK. The kids did well at school this year and they were rewarded with Gift Vouchers from WH Smith. They have been and bought, amongst other things, headphones for their flight to Orlando, getting them home though, their headphones have no volume control on them. Does the Ife on Virgin 747 and A330 have a set level on, or is it something the user can alter? I personally have VERY sensitive hearing but hubby (years working with machinery) is hard of hearing, and needs volume quite high on TV etc. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Thanks guys, I`ve seen mention of airline adaptors on other posts, with various answers, some say they work with one ear some say with both, the general consensus (apologies if it`s the wrong spelling) is that 3.5mm work fine and in stereo. We travelled to Cyprus year before last and purchased headphones onboard for the kids to watch the movie, they only worked in one ear and were those uncomfortable in ear types. They`ve had the padded headphones this time, so will be more comfortable and should cut out some of the plane noise too. Hopefully the Ife will be working as our son is a movie addict.

I would highly advise as well, to plug in the headphones and wear them if you are planning on getting some sleep. Don't put any films on, just leave the IFE system off. The white noise(?) of the IFE system that comes through the headphones deafens out the sound of the aircraft/engines/units that constantly whir in-flight, much quieter and far easier to sleep.

Hi SHG, totally agree. Mind you, after doing all the packing etc for hubby, twins and myself, I`ll probably be looking forward to a sit down. Hubby says I`m like one of those old fashioned dolls, as soon as the head goes down the eyes are closed, same happenes when TV is switched on in the evening. Maybe sunglasses, headphones and a Do Not Disturb sign would be a good investment. :D ][|)

Hi,

I found the VS head-sets to be VERY fragile - I went through 4 pairs outbound and 5 pairs inbound :o) The poor cabin crew must've loved me haha :) Good idea with kids buying their own - at lease they can use them again y)

Make the most of the free bar - sounds as though you deserve it lol y)

Apologies for going off-topic here, but I find it nigh on impossible to sleep on a plane. Apart from in June, when I flew MCO-GLA in the bubble: I listened to my i-pod (full volume) and managed to drift off for 20 minutes or so. Not good for my hearing I know v( v( but I just wondered if anyone else does this?

Anyway I digress as usual, tigerless have a great flight & holiday (I ain't jealous in the slightest.... :w )

Regards,
GlasgowBoy

Hi Glasgowboy, I find it difficult to sleep on a plane too, but once the anti-sickness drugs kick in I doze for a few minutes. Free bar is good, but I don`t drink alcohol, hoping to be able to get some very nice Florida orange juice though. Yesterday sorted Esta`s, and travel insurance. Next week hoping to get Discovery Cove tickets. Then savings on for BIG $$$$ multipark tickets. Hopefully the bottom won`t drop out of the $ market just yet and we can get a good exchange rate. y)
