Has anyone had any luck in contacting Virgin regarding refunding of US airline taxes for flights taken on or after July 23.

More info is on the IRS website: http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,, ... 12,00.html

I assume I can ask Virgin to refund me the US taxes for my return flight (LHR-BOS) on July 24.

Appreciate any views on this.

Well you could ask but remember that VS will charge an admin fee which may well be more than the US taxes (£30 for the admin fee comes to mind) and remember it is only the 'ticket tax' that would be refundable not the airport and security fees.

Incidently the position has now been regularised when the Senate agreed to a house bill

Funny way for legislators to run a country where one group would rather the Government lost $200million + of revenue to make a pioint about 'saving' less than $20m let alone putting tens of thosands of construction workers out of jobs.

My understanding of this is that during a short period the tax couldn't be collected due to the FAA temporarily losing its authorisation. Theoretically prices should have come down, but airlines raised their fares instead. There are no refunds due to those who booked, paid the tax and flew during the suspension as the reinstatement has been done retrospectively.
