Hi

Can anyone advise me if I would be allowed to pack a metal ball bearing gas powered gun in the cases? They can be bought off the shelf at the supermarket, but just wondered if there were any rules involved with the airline. ?|

Thanks,

Karen

According to this from the spiffy new layout page for dangerous articles I'd say no due to the compressed gas cylnder.

Hehe, :0 The whip does that!!

Alfie wants one for target practice, nothing sinister, v( Alf and Mr H both have pump action air rifles etc and he just wanted a new toy. They have brought back crossbows and all sorts but it was the gas bit I was worried about.

Anyway, I might need them all if the riots carry on ;) :w :0

You better be careful. Regardless of whether you can or cannot get it on board, it could be illegal in the UK anyway.

Of course all hand guns are banned anyway, but if it is not a handgun, then "Air guns chambered for self-contained gas cartridges" are also illegal.

Her Majesty's finest do not muck about concerning this stuff.

y) Well said.

I feel very uncomforatable that this thread and thus discussion is even taking place on a social networking site :?

Perhaps the MODS should take a view ??

The OP has asked a valid question and is entitled to an answer. Advice is being given about the legality of bringing such an item into the country. The discussion is not about the rights or wrongs about its ownership and is no different to, say, the recent thread about how much cash could be brought into the US.

You are obviously not very conversant with the UK Law (and I see you dont live here)

There is a raft of difference between the questions and indeed the question asked was not what you portray but simply about taking the weapon aboard the aircraft (not into any country).

I am pointing out that the UK law on social networking when it comes to weapons is very strict so be please aware of what you may personally be accused of advocating !!

Hec

The OP only asked if she would be allowed to take the item onto the plane. She did not ask about the legality (or not) of actually buying the item in the US (just because it is on display does not imply legality) or importing it into the UK.

She has been provided with advice re VS policy on dangerous articles (and note they do allow guns on board within checked luggage). Advice has also been given, though not actually asked or, re posible legal implications within the UK.

The fact that the OP has asked the question , to me, shows that she is looking into this matter carefully and not doing anything on a whim.

Could you provide a link to the law on social network sites and weapons please?

edited to replace 'not' with 'on' in the first sentence to clarify meaning.

If you wish to impart consideration for the advice then I would happily point you in the direction of a UK expert but failing that http://lmgtfy.com/

I think Tonty asked a fairly reasonable question.

I have tried your second suggestion, and can't really see anything remotely appropriate. If you could provide some sort of link it would be appreciated, as it is a little unfair of you to imply we as a site may be (close to) breaking some sort of law, but then not provide anything to back that statement up.

Sorry but by asking the question about bringing the weapon aboard the aircraft there is an inference that it is being brought into the country and others have taken up the inference in querying the legality of such an action. I cannot see what I am being accused of advocating other than someone has asked a question and is entitled to an answer

What a strange response !

The usual etiquete - certainly on this site - is to provide an actual link to a relevant article (like I did for the OP to the VS 'Dangerous Goods' section on the website and Daren did to another article) rather than simply say 'google it'

Indeed, I saw some Sam missiles on eBay and wondered if they'd be OK in hand luggage :D :o) :D .

I too think guns suck, but it was a valid question for sunsational to ask. In the same way to me anyway as 'how many bottles of wine can I bring back'.

I just want to thank everyone who has given advice. I did not intend any offence to any other member. If like myself, you were used to using firearms (my family are farmers and we all use shotguns or air rifles for rodents)all are legal and with licences.

I appreciate not everyone likes or approves of guns, however they are on private property and certainly not used to be abused.

I know the legalities of having one in the UK, my post was to determine whether VS would allow it in the checked luggage.

Thank you everyone,
