I think it is due to the lighter flavours of rose wines compared to 'heavier' whites and reds.

For some reason the pressurised cabin affects the tastebuds and drinking a rose would be like drinking water.

I am not saying rose wines are horrible or anything just they may not be able to tollerate the altitude as well as more robust reds and whites.

The same applies as to why some foods are not on the menu.

As to Darren - is Port not a dessert wine? I certainly drink it with dessert.

I am typing this as I am having a small glass of chilled port

hic !

I think the reason is far simpler - Rose wines are seen by many as being naff and downmarket. There is also a notion that they are sweeter so are consumed by women, but there are plenty of excellent Rose wines about (many of which are not sweet) and I for one am starting to enjoy them on a occasional basis :) .
I may be becoming senile but didn't VS used to serve dessert wines (or is my memory playing tricks) ?
Emirates (and other airlines) certainly do and I wish VS would too.

Port is a sort of dessert wine, but specifically refers to a fortified wine produced in the Douro Valley of Portugal and is designed to be drunk at the end of a meal.

Where as a dessert wine is fermented to be very sweet to compliment a dessert such as fruit.

I'm sure Decker or Howard can be much more encyclopaedic than me. I just like them both :)

I can heartily recommend Beringer Sparkling White Zinfandel if you are after a nice sparking variety!

I remember there being a rosé wine on the menu years ago - no one ever drank it so it was quickly replaced with a another red/white.
