Inappropriate crew member

Flew to Vegas for some R&R last week on 43 and overheard this conversation between a crew member and a passenger sitting next to me. The conversation was regarding gaining free entry to night clubs in Vegas and the reply the crew member gave I found astonishing. She gave the passenger a number to call in Las Vegas, said that if she was with a group of girls only they would arrange access to certain clubs for free, Free drinks all night and all you have to do is entertain men that the hosts send to your table, "you know dancing and kissing stuff, take it as far as you want to".

Now the girl passenger thought this wasn't a problem and thought the info was great. Maybe I'm getting too boring but I don't think this is the way the crew should behave.

More and more now I'm not enjoying flying Virgin.

If you were the pax chatting to the crew and were upset then you'd get some sympathy but you only overheard the conversation.

The CC was not doing anything illegal was she? Was she inciting your seat neighbour to do anything illegal?

And this is no worse than goes on week after week in the UK - 'Ladies Nights' in night clubs for example.

Call me a prude, but I totally agree with OP, using their position as cabin crew to give out a telephone number to who knows who/where is not on. If this had happened in private then so be it, on a plane journey where nothing is private is not on. I`ve tried to rack my brains as to why this can be acceptable but can`t find the reason anyone should be able to give a number of an "escort agency" to a holidaymaker. Would it be acceptable to pass on the phone number of an arms dealer/drug dealer etc - totally not. Why should it be acceptable to pass on details of anyone offering free drinks & nights out in return for a "service"? I`m in my 40`s with teenage twins, would I want to overhear this talk on my next flight - NO! Obviously some people will have different views but maybe the "old fashioned" amongst us know what "go as far as you like" actually does mean. On the other hand, I`ve overheard a few partial conversations in my time, which do change completely once the whole conversation is repeated. It`s a "you had to be there to understand what happened" scenario. Just my two penneth, but passing numbers is a no-no in my opinion v(

I am not sure that the point is whether or not it is legal or unusual; the point is whether an airline or indeed any company would be happy for someone to be promoting such activities whilst working.

Personally I don't think I'd mind all that much if I were a passenger overhearing this stuff. But if I were the FSM I would be really unimpressed that 'my' crew were doing this 'on the job'.

Feeling very much on the middle ground on this one I can see both points of view on this but think that the CC was working and therefore representing VS.....Oh I still don't know

Well, nobody can accuse the VS crew of not being approachable and/or helpful after reading this, can they?!? They clearly like to give that little bit more, and go that extra mile!

Joking aside though, I can see why it would cause offence. On the other hand, the CC wasn't talking directly to you - so it's a bit of a catch 22.

As tontybear pointed it, it's no worse than what currently goes on in the UK. Might the passenger have been an off-duty VS crew-member though? It never fails to amaze me what female cabin crew discuss - in the most non-discreet environments! v(

A friend of mine travelling back from Orlando with the family overheard one member of cabin crew talking to another about what he was going to do to the other crew member when they got back to the hotel room!

Air New Zealand actually employ "concierge service" attendants on their flights who give out all sorts of info about the destinations.

I'm not suggesting they give out numbers where girls get free drinks, but on a Vegas flight such as this, it sounds like the FA was giving out appropriate (if a little indiscreet) advice.

Now I may be wrong, but I think of Virgin/SRB as being far from prudish, and very tongue-in-cheek. Take the slogans for instance: "More experience than the name suggests"; "Extra Inches Where It Counts"; "You'll Never Forget Your First Time" etc. It's what you'd (well, me anyway ) expect from an airline called Virgin!

Folks, I sincerley apologise for causing offence - it honestly wasn't my intention. I realised this morning that I got carried away with the content of my last few posts, which, to be honest, I find highly embarrassing when I read them back. So apologies for going off topic in such poor taste.

Anyway, back on topic. Just to reiterate what I first wrote: I can totally see where the OP is coming from in terms of being shocked and offended. However, I still maintain that the pax must've been a colleague or a friend and the CC simply momentarily forgot she was on an aircraft.

Having been to Vegas several times myself its fair to say the Vegas clubs are full of 'males' to help even out the numbers the girls are quite often let in for free, not so they can pimp themselves out but just to make the clubs crowd a bit more mixed.

On most of our trips to Vegas the girls get in for free and the male crew have to pay anything upto $35 to get in.

more often than not that cost is divided by all the crew going out so its a bit more fairer on the male crew LOL.

Also many crew have contacts in vegas who are more than happy to add 'passengers' to the guest lists to help jump the lines. The door staff at the frequent clubs we visit are more than happy to help our pax jump the lines, and have given out phone numbers to call.

The crew member was simply sharing her knowledge with the pax, the clubs we get into are not simply to flirt with men.

If anything I'm more upset that you think all our crew are hookers.

I'm not sure about "inappropriate" - brings us into discussions of morals and ethics - tricky ground!

However, I don't think it is very wise for VS employees whilst on duty to give this type of information to passengers, and I can't think VS would be too impressed either, for the simple reason that if something were to go wrong on the visit, VS could well find itself the wrong end of a law suit.

Ultimately no-one is being shanghaied into the clubs and it comes down to something that is sadly lacking in society, personal responsibility.

I've no doubt that there are more than a few passengers on the LAS flights who are heading out there to look for work on the grey economy in Sin City. Same as the LAX flights have more than a few would-be actors/actresses looking to make it big. Whether that is in Hollywood or the San Fernando Valley.

If the CC want to provide tips on getting into clubs for free, then where's the harm? No-one is forced to go there.
