Hi all,

I am flying SYD - HKG with Qantas (points booking) and then have 5+ hours before my VS flight leaves for LHR.

As QF is in no way associated with VS I will have to collect my bags, go through security and check-in for my VS flight at the check in desks.

Q1. Has anyone done similar recently? How long does customs take to leave? How long is security on the way back in? I appreciate it's variable but I'm hoping they're more efficient than some airports!

I have plenty of time so I'm not too stressed but the transit/transfer info on the HKG airport website seems to suggest that I may not need to collect my bags (I doubt this - as they are not connected bookings in anyway shape or form!)

Q2. Can I still do OLCI at T-24 for the VS flight and then turn up at the check-in desk at HKG to do bag drop? I'm assuming that this is fine.

On my return I fly LHR - HKG on VS and will have to reclaim bags, go through customs and re-check in for the QF return to BNE, pass through security and hopefully have enough time to enjoy the QF Business Lounge before my flight (only 3 hours to transit this time)

Many thanks for any comments or info.

HKG is pone of the most efficient airports you will find. There is no Fast Track lane because it all runs fast !
Luggage will probably appear before you get to the belt (reflecting their speed rather than your immigration delay !).

Just go up ome floor and check-in again and within 10 mins you will be on your way to the lounge. It is a fair walk (10 mins) or you can take the train (which is boring).

Fast and efficient - just as you would expect from a British designed, british built airport (errr what about LHR ?)

Many thanks for your reply. I feel more confident with it now - I expected it would be easy.

Thanks again!
