Has anyone else experienced the poor excuse for free Wifi at the JFK Clubhouse?

I flew VS 46 last night and had to let the staff know how frustrating their lack of reliable connectivity is. They all agreed, promising with the new Clubhouse opening in January, all will magically be solved.

I felt vindicated by the number of fellow passengers who individually came up to me after hearing me vent this frustration to the Clubhouse managers, who thanked me for being so vociferous after repeatedly experiencing the same frustration.

While the Clubhouse management was helpful and sympathetic, it seems completely unacceptable to market UC to business travelers only to let them down on such a basic service in this always-on digital age.

Anyone have thoughts on this?

Hi Nylon

I'm sure the answer is yes from anyone who has ever used it, or tried to. It appears to be a problem in all VS clubhouses. I could not use it at all at EWR recently and there have been very poor reports at SFO too. The only glimmer of hope is that the LHR CH has recently changed from T-Mobile to Virgin Media and that worked beautifully last week.

I was so exasperated last time that I wrote to VS through the feedback page. All I got was the generic "Thank you" response. Then a big fat nothing.

There is a list of clubhouse wifi woes on this thread from last month.

Cheers

Martin

Thanks, Martin! I read through that thread but in speaking to the management at JFK last night, I was told "improvements had been made." Not so, apparently.

I'd love it if people took the poll to generate enough responses for Virgin to understand that we aren't just grumbling customers.

Yes, I believe so. On a recent flight I was told by a member of the crew that it would be airside (which would be a bit better than the current arrangements).

During my rant to the Clubhouse manager, I learned that the new JFK Clubhouse is scheduled to open in January. It will be airside, and from what I'm told there will be a dedicated security channel - which for anyone flying out of JFK, will be a huge bonus.
I'm also told the lounge will be bigger, and, its assumed, better wireless connectivity. I'll believe it when I see it!

The wifi service at the JFK CH is so sllllloooooowwwwww!!! v( However, hopefully light is at the end of the tunnel. When I have mentioned this to staff before they have just nodded in agreement that it is not up to scratch....

There have been plenty of complaints in trip reports about the wi-fi in JFK and other Clubhouses. Last July in SFO I ended up using the wi-fi from the terminal, but I had to smile when I learned that Fergus from the Virgin Atlantic eBusiness team who was on my flight, had to suffer the CH wi-fi ):

There had been posts some time ago about the new JFK Clubhouse but I didn't know it was so near completion. We were told it was airside and as reported here, with a separate security channel. I am rather fond of the current JFK Clubhouse but it can get very crowded at times

Yup WiFi is terrible at JFK and SFO ... but at my last EWR stop by the WiFi there worked OK.

As to JFK, I also understand the new clubhouse will also have a spa. Will reserve judgement on the security channel ... for the occasional ciggie, landside clubhouses are pretty good things!
