Upgrading reward flights with cash

Hi everyone, been ages since I last posted a new topic on here and I don't think it has been answered before (i hope )

So after the success of (finally) getting VS Black amex card and then buying 3 upper reward flight have begun amassing my miles again. So I thought I had a premium upgrade voucher (which only appears on account at end of the year GRRR!) So i booked economy flight using miles and was able to upgrade at the airport.

Have to admit the thought of going back to 'riff raff' as my colleague at work puts it was a daunting one being at the nose of the plane for the last 4 years! Thankfully even got clubhouse access so the drop down to premium was survivable ....

Now (to the question) although I am happy with the price I paid as I was getting upgrades for £200 each way a result I tell you! Was just wondering would I atleast get a tier point and some miles? ?|

I'm confused. You bought Y rewards with miles then upgraded using your voucher and then at the airport paid cash to upgrade to UC?

The rules state you shouldn't be allowed to upgrade the PE voucher with cash or miles, so you did well, but I don't think you will earn any miles or TP's as you hav no original fare basis to earn them on.

It is an unusual situation, so I could be wrong as never heard of it happening like this before.

If you bought your ticket in Y with cash (i.e not a reward or a miles + money fare) then you will get the miles and TPs for Y but not for PE.

You might have to make a manual claim for this though as VS systems don;t seem to be able to handle this automatically.

I bought my ticket using reward miles... I then upgraded to premium with cash (was also surprised they let me do it tbh)...

(the premium upgrade voucher will only go on to the account in December.... otherwise I'd have used that)...

Then no, you won't get any miles or TPs.

You only get those when the base fare if paid for with cash

Oh I see. I'm gobsmacked they allowed you to upgrade a miles booking with cash, that is cleary forbidden in the fare rules and T&C's. You shouldn't earn any miles or TP's but I guess as things seem to be different with your booking you never know, which PE fare code are you showing as being booked in?

Indeed very unusual, but why not submit a claim for missing miles in any case, and see what happens?
