Hi, I'm flying out on the VS045 flight on May 22 to JFK at 14.00 from Heathrow. Is there a way I can check on how many seats have been sold. Im just curious because if there's not many seats sold nearer to the date I'm flying, I will expect a message from Virgin to inform me that my flight time will be changed due to operational requirements. Thank you.

I would imagine the amount of seats sold on any flight would be commercially confidential.

You can get a rough idea looking at the seat maps but I wouldn't really go by that. With flights that far in advance its nearly impossible.

The only way to have it confirmed is by the email you mentioned from VS

You must be hoping for a free change ... ;) ?

However in late May to New York I would not expect that any flight will be cancelled due to low loads.

You could register on http://www.flightstats.com and do a load check (it is free).

However doing a load check this far in advance is unlikely to tell you anything regarding the likely load of the actual flight when it is due to fly.

If VS are going to cancel/colsoldate a flight they will probbably only look at doing so a month of so in advance. To avoid paying compensation they have to give two weeks notice as per EU regulations

You also have to remember that although your flight load might be light, the returning flight might be chock-a-block. There have been trip reports about extremely light loads on one leg of the flight but just the opposite on another. You don't say when you are returning but the Queen's jubilee celebrations are on at the beginning of June and that could attract a lot of US visitors to come over for that.

Also, instead of cancelling a flight Virgin Atlantic may well do an aircraft change. I am booked to go to Dubai in January and for the longest time I was the only person who had selected a seat in UC on an A346. Recently I checked on the My Booking page to find that the plane had been downgraded to a 343 - although surprisingly my seat choice had been honoured

But the OP was asking how many seats have "been sold". By using Expertflyer or it's equivalent, the best you can hope for is there is " a minimum of 9 seats " available

That could mean 9 seats or 200 seats are available depending on class

Unfortunately, Unless you can get into Virgins booking system, there is no way to tell "how many seats have been sold"

Mes apologies.

No problem :)

(we get a few people who ask for load checks here but unfortunately they then dont understand the info that's given to them. I have no issues giving figures but they have to be taken in context. They are useful to a point, but to be absolutely certain what's what, theres really no better substitute than boarding the plane :) )
