Hi,

Just looking for some reassurance and piece of mind.

Historically I have always flown from Manchester to Orlando leaving my vehicle at Manchester Airport. However last time the 3 hour drive home from Manchester after an 8 hour flight was too much, windows had to be left open to keep me awake.

This time I have booked flights thru virgin flying with Flybe from Newcastle to Gatwick and then onto Orlando. Same coming back. I have no prebooked luggage with Flybe, just the flight.

I have been told by Virgin that as I have booked as one itinerary Flybe will honour my baggage allowance? Bearing in mind the UC allowance I have with Virgin and who also transport golf clubs free of charge I find this quite hard to believe?

Do any other members have experience of this???

Thanks in advance.

Ian.

Hi Ian,

Good luck finding re-assurance on the baggage front!

VS havnn't mis-advised but kind of have at the same time. The theory is supposed to be that as long as you have the flights on the one ticket the most generous allowance of that ticket will apply.

What happens in reality is each carrier is allowed to apply their own limits which is why I would urge you to check with Flybe and also re-check with VS what baggage allowance is actually marked on your ticket for their sector as if it says 3 pieces I guess you would be able to contest it with them. Flybe should also be able to see your ticket to advise what allowance they can see on it.

You would also have to check with regards to the sports equipment too! There is supposed to be an industry wide sort out of the baggage system as it has become far too confusing as airlines are being allowed to pick and choose whether they accept the onward/previous carriers allowances.

Hope this helps and hasn't confused you further.

Do many of you here check in anywhere near the maximum amount allowed anyway? We don't usually manage to check in more than one bag each and check-in staff often look surprised that we aren't taking more. It isn't at though we leave stuff behind we need to take.... what on earth do other people need to take that fills so much space???

I often take one pretty empty bag out and a least a couple of very full ones back... ;-)

I normally take one bag out, pretty much full, but with another empty one in there for the return journey - like Pete, both bags come home full.

I get some funny looks at DTD check-in when they see you are travelling in UC and only checking in 2 small bags (think I managed an 18kg & 12kg one last time). And if DTD check-in is busy, there will be families galore repacking bags on the concrete floor to try and meet the weight limits.

Does anyone use the full 3x32kg UC baggage limit (+ the extra bag you are allowed if FC Gold?) That is an awful lot of luggage.

Update:
I have spoken with Flybe and they have confirmed that they will honour Virgins full allowance for both legs of the Flybe journey. I even have it in writing so if anybody has concerns and are using Flybe in future please let me know and I will be happy to share.
Lets hope my TR upon my return confirms the above!!!
To be fair like other posters have commented it will be more for the journey home where I will be using the higher allowance, much to the delight of my wife and young son! The least I can do when I'm sneaking off for a golf break in the sun with the lads!!

Maybe not up to the 32kg limit but 3 bags is standard for me.

This is useful info for me too as Newcastle is only a 40 minute drive for me compared with 3 hours from Manchester. I had been told by friends that Flybe wouldn't honour BA's flight luggage allowance so I assumend that VS would be the same. I think that I will also drop Flybe an email before I book my October flight.
Thanks for sharing the info.

A Lad's golf break :0 does this mean I have a noisy flight on the 20th as I am on that flight too :w Don't worry only joking and I have my QC15's at the ready |:)

And before anyone says anything about my on board reputation.....I had been planning to be a model passenger ):

Don't know what you mean ): ): .
I have been close to the limit more than once. In my defence some of this has been due to bringing vintage car parts back from the USA but now the car has beeen rebuilt I've no excuse :D . My biggest problem now is fitting the bleeding things in the car as boot sizes seem to be like VS sleepsuits (ie getting smaller all the time..).

Frequently, and for two of us as well, it's pretty easy really, sometimes we include a case of wine as one of the bags for example.

Having 3 x 32 kg in UC is really fantastic.

Because we often fly to join a cruise, we would normally use all 3 pieces each, although not normally weighing more than about 26-27 kgs
per case. It's a really great allowance for us.

I don't think I've checked a single bag while flying UC over the past 3 years. Holidays in Y are a different matter, and the AU extra bag allowance has come in useful there...
