PE upgrade advice please

Hello, please forgive any protocol faux pas, I'm new.

I'm flying LHR-LAX in September. Im considering a cabin upgrade using the new upgrade bid system, but not really sure what's a good but not over the top amount? It lets you bid up to £600 per person, though thats more than the full price upgrade.

What would a typical cabin upgrade cost at the desk?

On check in it is a "depends", and something of a lottery. If Y / PE is full and VS needs people to upgrade, the price can be low, say £700, but if not, it'll be much higher, say £1,200. I bow to others with more recent exact experience, but the general advise here is that if you see a fare you think is of value, go for it and don't look back.
