Hi

Am traveling out to Chicago in PE on P class tickets. I understand that these usually are not upgradable using miles however do you think it is worth a call to FC a couple days before to ask or wait until at the airport. The flight is on the 17th June and there seems to be good availability for UC reward seats.

Any thoughts?

Thx

It's unlikely that you will be able to prior to your flight, but there have been reports of VS accepting miles for upgrades on restricted tickets at the airport. Now, there's no rhyme or reason to why, sometimes they do, sometimes they don't - however one trend suggests that VS more likely will if the cabin you are in (or the one below) is fully booked and volunteers for miles upgrades help things out. Is PE full for your flight?

Whatever, the sound advise is to expect a "no", but if by some slim chance it's a "yes" then be delighted ;) .

P is the PE reward fare code, so I'm assuming you use miles somehow to get your P fare.

How did you buy your ticket? Did you use miles fully, buy an economy fare and upgrade to UC with miles, or use the AmEx PE upgrade voucher?

If it is one of the first two then you should be able to use more miles to upgrade to UC, providing there are G reward seats available, if it is the third then you won't be able to upgrade that with either miles or cash until the day, when as Slinky has said, anything might be possible.

Thanks for your help, I'll try on the day. I did a dummy booking and it showed no availability in PE at all, fingers crossed! :)
