My baggage allowance is 23kg for my trip to Vegas but we travel with a child who also gets the allowance we take two large cases usually over the 23 kg and a soft bag a lot less than 23kg is there a rule on the allowance is per bag or is the weight shared between the bags for the party just asking because we had a problem with "Bags to go" at the luxor last year.

AFAIK, it's each bag. If you have one that will be over and another under, it's best to split the load so that you have no issues. Otherwise, you may either have to pay for the overweight bag (which mustn't exceed 32kg) or endure the inconvenience of re-packing at the airport to resistribute the load.

Unfortunately these days, the weight is per bag per person. You can no longer combine the weight or split the weight into different bags.

coming back from MCO we travelled PE so where allowed to bring back 2 bags at 23kg each even though we only had 1 bag at approx 28kgs we where charged 50USD in excess baggage ...should have bought a second bag, so I would say keep all bags to the 23kg limit or under unless in UC then it is 32kg

and I think it's also a H&S issue

The over 32kg is a health and safety issue. These have to be handled separately and the ground handler will charge more for this specialised handling, this is also the same for oversize which is one of the reasons why it has to be booked in advance.

The limit is definately per bag, as others have said. If one bag is over 23kg & the other enough under 23kg to take the excess from the other, they will allow you to move away from the check-in desk to re-pack the bags. (This is a very regular sight at Downtown Disney check-in over in Orlando).

Health & Safety aside, you can't blame any airline for enforcing the baggage limits. More weight = more fuel = more £££.

The only totally fair way on baggage would be to weigh passangers AND their baggage together - but that will never happen as it would give the PC brigade a field-day.

I know where you are coming from, buy gayboyzuk was in PE, with a 23kg weight limit per bag - his bag was over that. As he says, he should have bought an extra bag - they are available quite cheaply at all of the main Outlet Malls in Orlando (even if a $20 bag only lasts one trip - you are still $30 in pocket when compared to excess baggage charges).
