Just booked flights for June next year, Vegas bound to celebrate a major birthday.
Very infrequent Virgin flyer, simply because of work. Last Vegas trip was 2008.
As before booked lowest in PE and have K ticket.
Very old fashioned, walk up to the desk a few hours before and check in.
Very aware, more savvy flyers use twilight, pre book seats and have the best use of miles sussed.
In the past on this flight, I have politely asked an agent before checking if UC seats were available.
Very aware limited seats on this route, on more than one occasion miles used with great success.
So my question is? Has K T&C’s changed in this period?
Or have I just been lucky, although K is the lowest of the low are the terms absolute?
Thank you guys :)

Thank you, this is why I'm confused.
Booked before which I presume must have been K.
Only outbound on three flights used miles at desk without any problem.
I'm sure it's not just my good looks, just lucky perhaps ?|

I think it may depend on a number of factors including how long before departure you book the tix.
Also, depending on the operational pressures VS may let you use miles to save giving another pax an operational upgrade. I have done this before.
You may well be lucky. I have my fingers crossed for you :D

We often say here that at the airport that rules don't always apply. You walking u and offering miles to move up a cabin might mean that they now no longer need to do an op-up because they were oversold in Y and PE yet UC has a lot of space.

Okay, so they allow you to upgrade from the wrong fare code, but at least they take a chunk of your miles and get something for the upgrade which they wouldn't get from a forced op-up.

It could also be because of something as simple as the agent not fully understand the fare rules and allowing you to upgrade in error.
