Hi all
Me again :D

So all the flights are booked now for our trip 14 night trip to LHR-LAX-OGG-OAK-SFO-LHR , plus a condo at Honua Kai in Maui. Just need to sort out accomodation for our stays in Anaheim and San Francisco either side of the relaxing week in Maui.
For Anaheim we quite like the look of the Howard Johnson , Doubletree Suites, Sheraton or Best western (opposite the main gates to Disneyland)
Has anyone stayed at these properties ? I have looked at the tripadvisor reports and all seem decent but would love some feedback from a trustowrthy source too please.

Then moving onto SFO, initially we were looking at the wharf, but it seems more pricey and touristy so I found the Prescott which is 2 blocks from Union Square. Or The Handlery. Again comments would be much appreciated.

Thanks
L2H

ps. if anyone needs any advice on flights to Maui and back from US mainland or where to stay, please let me know. I have spent hours researching ii) . I was quoted £8k by VH a couple of months back for a similar package but only flying EC, I have managed (with a lot of help from Vflyer) to chop over 25% off this price by packaging it myself and that includes PE flights from LHR to the US.
Very pleased with myself. y)

I was in San Fran earlier this year and stayed at the Parc 55. The room was basic but clean, the hotel bar was very lively and the location was excellent. It's right at the end of the cable car line. I almost booked the Handlery a year ago but I was advised not to by a friend who had stayed there. I don't have first hand experience but it does look tired from the outside.

I've not stayed in either the Prescott or the Handlery but I know people who have, both are fine, both are in great locations. You're still in the tourist hub there (Union Sq) but it's a good placed to be based in SF - if I were to choose between the too, I'd go for the Prescott. Other hotels which are worth a look near(ish) to Union Sq are: The Orchard Hotel, The Orchard Garden Hotel (same owners), The Triton, The Chancellor and then of course Westin, Hilton etc etc. Feel free to PM me with any specific questions.

Look at the Joie de Vivre boutique chain. Join their loyalty programme and you get free wi-fi even on your first stay.

The have a few hotels in the Union Square area.

Another reasonable hotel near Union Sq just round the block from the Prescott is the Monaco. The Kimptons are pretty reliable. I've also stayed in the Triton, mentioned by Simon above, which was OK and very cheap when I booked, but more a 3 star than a 4.

Thanks everyone, had to put the search on hold for a few days due to threat of redundancy, now passed thankfully... This time !!
Will take a look at those.

I have just come back from Anaheim I stayed in the Hyatt Regency Orange County. A very nice hotel with large rooms. They have a shuttle to the Disney resort a short distance up the road 2 restaurants and a Starbucks in the hotel and a supermarket (target) on the other side of the road.

I can 2nd the Hyatt; stayed there twice. Really nice bar with a great selection of local beer. Great barstaff too. Try V Hols for room rates; we paid about £70 per night.

I spot checked the Clift which is just a bit further than the Handlery, and seems to have more or less equivalent prices. I'd pick the Clift in a second given the choice.

So much more in the way of restaurants, bars etc etc is in SOMA these days that I would consider a place south of market. Assuming the Four Seasons and St Regis are not in the ballpark, you could look at the Marriott, Westin SF Market St (not the Westin St Francis) or the W. Starwood properties have good 3-for-2 deals as has been pointed out before here.

For Anaheim I like places that are easy walking distance - you can do in-&-out of the parks comfortably, go back to the hotel for a bit of R&R or food/drinks, etc etc. Sheraton Anaheim Hotel, Sheraton Park Hotel or Anaheim Marriott all much of a muchness.

The Hyatt is probably a better hotel, but a bit more of a hike, probably only shuttle material.

I walked it in 30 mins so it can be done but as you say in the US that is shuttle bus distance.
