Do the check in staff have any flexibility for on the day mileage upgrades regardless of fare code?

Just seeing if there is any chance of upgrading my MPM PE seats if there is UC going empty.

There are lots of stories of this happening over the years. There are a lot more stories of passengers having to pay to upgrade their fare to a bucket that is eligible for a mileage upgrade. Don't think the check-in staff have this flexibility, but they can no doubt make a phone call to find out if they can do it.

You can only ask - a refusal costs you nothing. 8D

It may help if the flight is busy down the back and they are looking to move people forward anyway. 8D

MPM fares cannot be upgraded with more miles - you could ask but expect a "no". But as Nick says there have been stories of some flexibility rarely.

heres an interesting 'what if' scenario..

i have a PE MCO-LGW coming up just after Xmas. Right now (and yes i know the likelihood is small ) I am the ONLY PE seat showing as taken. there are also just 2 UC seats filled..... Econ is about 1/3 full

so I wonder IF that didnt change ,what would happen ?

you would hope Vs would close PE and offer an upgrade, would it make any sense having CC looking after 1 PE pax ?

of course i know full well it is gonna fill up the day before but it would be interesting to see............

I have precedence for this - after 911 I was returning from holiday in California, flights were as people will remember very quiet. I was travelling on company business in PE and the no. 1 was on miles in Y. I think there were two people in PE and it was decided to upgrade us both and close PE, which p'd the no. 1 off, but then he said he got a four in the middle of the Airbus we were on, put the armrests up, and had a very good sleep all the way home!

With that load maybe they'll cancel it and combine with another. I've been in a PE cabin with 2 other PAX before - the service was great

in January my son had a reward ec ticket upgraded to pe with a amex voucher we asked at the airport if he could upgrade to uc and was surprised they said yes so he upraded with 12,000 miles to travel with us in uc. so it is always worth asking. :)

Who knows what VS would do.

Just because there is space in a cabin does not mean that VS will just move people up into it.

Once, one v-flyer was the only pax in UC on the MAN-MCO route. I was on a LHR-JFK VS45 once where there were only 11 of us in UC so they left us in the bubble and the A-Zone leaving the B-zone totally empty.

And you need to look at loads on both the in and outbound flights. There may only be a few pax on an outbound but if there is a full load to come home VS will still operate the plane.
