"pool" miles for Amex upgrades?

Slightly obtuse question coming up... I know you can use miles from 2 accounts providing each leg is wholly from one account, but is this true for Amex EC > PE rewards? Usually I get enough miles on the black card to cover 2 awards completely, but it looks like I will be "short" next year. My wife has enough in her account, so could I use 2 x "legs" worth of miles to pay for one Amex EC > PE award while using my own miles for my award? Any advice gratefully received!

I'm not 100% sure what you are asking, so apologies if my answer isn't what you were asking, but you can use miles from any account in conjunction with the AmEx voucher. The miles like on a full reward or upgrade have to be in one way leg amounts.

I managed to get a couple of EC rewards to MCO in the last reward seat sale, 2 for 60k miles) and upgraded them both with my 2x Amex vouchers.

The 60k miles came from my wife's FC account, while the vouchers were from my FC account..
They seem to be pretty flexible, so long as you are all on the same booking.

The lady at the call centre didn't think it would work, I asked her to try, she obliged, it did!

Excellent - that is exactly what I was looking for, as otherwise I would have to pay to "transfer" miles.
