A friend of mine has just booked flights for Feb. She wanted to upgrade her booking using miles but didn't have enough.

Her Dad offered to 'gift' her his miles until he found out how much it would cost.

The Flying Club agent told him that if he authorised his daughter on his account, she could use his miles in conjunction with her own and not incur any cost.

Question, is this correct because it would certainly negate the 'gift miles' charges if you can just do this anyway.

If so, I think Lacey's Senior and Junior will be experiencing a significant reduction in their miles very soon ;)

Yep this is correct.... raid away 8D

I am fairly certain that the authorising of accounts is limited to families from the VS perspective.. their version of the BA household accounts I would imagine ii)

I am an authorised user on my Mother's and Son's accounts, as well as his GF, so it looks like there's no restrictions to non family members.

IIRC, all it needs is a phone call from the other account holder (best if you are present so that you can confirm things if required), then off you go.

I think the FC team will need some sort of information about you for security to confirm that you are who you are.

I agree, it does negate the costs involved in "gifting" and transferring miles.

Good luck in negotiating the miles away from Senior and Junior!!

Do remember though, that the miles used have to be in full sector amounts. So to say upgrade around trip from Y to PE is 25k, you can use 12.5k from each account as that equates to 2 x one way upgrades, you can't however use 5k from one account and 20k from another to get to the total 25k.
