Seat selection only 90 days prior?

Just booked a return to LAS in October, and when I went to Manager my flights, it doesn't allow me to select a seat and says that's only available from 90 days before departure?

I thought you could do this more or less from when you book the flight - did something change or did I imagine I've been able to select a seat way ahead previously ?| ???

It has been 90 days for a while now - there are numerous threads about it - IIRC perceived wisdom is that you can sometimes choose a day or two before.

On my last two flights I got an email from VS at T -90 and had every single seat in the UC cabin to choose from when I logged in after getting the mail. y)

90 days it is - in fact the map opens at 90 days, but actual seat selection seems to be from when check in opens on the 89th day before you fly. Always annoys me that you can't book both legs at the same time.
