As I retire in August,I decided to treat myself (and Mrs QH of course) to a week in our favourite spot, Las Vegas. When I booked a couple of weeks ago, the outbound UC was £1k each but the return was £2.5k each - making the fare £3.5k each for the round trip - which is usual for the Las route. Just a bit too much for us, so I booked UC outbound and PE at £480 each for the return. Then the sale strikes and yesterday I find the return fare UC is £2k each - a relative bargain!
I called VS (on the FC silver helpline) and asked about upgrading the return to UC. The agent tells me that the system will give the return leg at £1k each but is forcing the outbound fare up to a flexi at £5k each! Nothing can be done he politely says....sorry.
So today, I ask Mrs QH if she could give it a try. She seems to be infinitely more fortunate in these matters than me! (And she constantly reminds me of it!) So she calls and speaks with an agent who says...'hmmm funny, it's giving me two fares for the upgrade. One will give you a heart attack so I won't tell you what it is. Hang on, I'll just speak to my team leader'.
Anyway, the upshot of it all is this. When trying to upgrade the K to a Z on the return leg, the system was automatically doing the same with the outbound, trying to bump it up to a J. A bit of tweaking with the system and we now have a Z both ways for £2k. A great result overall. Thanks to the agent who was incredibly helpful and who had the foresight to just ask his team leader for some help. ii)
