Sadly have slipped form Ag to Au. Here's the message when I logged in.

You've not earned the 40 required tier points in the last 13 month period to retain your Flying Club Gold membership and you are now a Flying Club Silver member. You'll shortly receive a Silver membership pack and card (if you've not already received this) with a new membership number.

But don't despair, to get back up to Gold you just have to earn 40 tier points within the next 13 month period (e.g. 01 Jan 2005 to 31 Jan 2006). So what are you waiting for, you just need to do some flying!

It really needs to be better than this. Can't they personalise to my year (an IT issue) or at least not give an example from 7 years ago.

Well it is just an example and states as much.
VS IT get a bashing, even from me. Not sure we can blame them for this.
Normally all comms that go out have to be sanctioned and agreed by marketing / comms at least.
If they haven't asked for it to be changed then for IT to ammend something off their own back would be asking for trouble in my eyes.

I blame the so called 'communications' and 'marketing' departments who actually write the stuff for not checking it properly.

I am prepared to blame the IT guys and gals when it is clearly an IT problem though !

Even when errors are pointed out to them they don't seem to even want to correct them.

I work in IT and the main reason for using a date and time not relatively close to the current date is to ensure there is no confusion with regards to the dates applying to the customer.

In other words people can skip through an email not read it all, see two dates and assume they are entitled to something they are not.

Plain and simple it is not the IT departs fault. It is an indication of how the system works and basically spelling it out for the slower people that don't know.

Another point is that you would be surprised that IT probably dont make the decisions. The marketing department usually say and get what they want. Regardless of whether it makes sense or not. The IT team are paid to do what they are told but as soon as any things wrong its there's an IT issue. Which should translate into "oh bullocks, we should of done what they said in the first place, ah well we will make the same mistake tomorrow!"

Sorry, but of a rant but it is true. IT get blamed for everything but get praise for nothing.

Ooh- feeling guilty and now and feel a need to apologise.

OK so it is a marketing problem - I can see some, but little logic in providing such an old date so as not to confuse. But for me this is more than countered by a feeling of "why are they using that - it is so long ago".

Would actually prefer a system that looked at my Membership year, then inserted real dates - may be we are not there yet.

Sorry IT people- I didn't mean to offend!

Hmmm...........but now I have stumbled on another one.

I was browsing the site as I am a little bored so I thought I'd take a look at the fleet page

"In 20111 we will introduce our A330 aircraft......."

I hope the new CEO reads this and can sort this. Marketing or IT the investment needs to be put in for a new single look up to date and rapidly updatable site.

Maybe I'm just Grumpy 'cos I'm only Silver now

I was on the VA site last night trying to book flights, spent half an hour trying to get the site to stay on the flights I wanted, kept jumping from £127 to £5,999 without me touching the computer. This happened over and over again. Gave up in the end, if they don't want the money I'm sure BA will. Shame on VA! BA site was fine so not a problem my end.
