Well another gate. It's 15.11 and just been told not taking off as a passenger has cracked their tooth n is being taken off the plane. 25 mins to get them and bags off.

No gate to gate entertainment and only 1 glass of champers. V flyer says I'm on lady stardust- -does that not have gate to gate .

It is a family of 4 getting off with 2 children. No obvious signs of pain or trauma. They are sitting at uc bar discussing the phone number of their dentist! Not uc passengers. No idea which of them is injured as all laughing and joking with the crew.

It i working now The family are in a g4s van while someone tries to find their bags. captain announcement at 15.44 announcing another 20 mns delay

I can't believe that this was enough of a crisis to stop a flight? They were all laughing as they went off! Are their guidelines -would it have been a emergency landing in flight. No was here a dentist on board announcement.

I am bemused rather than annoyed.

Anyone at anytime (up until take off) can demand to be let off the plane for any reason.

They obviously felt it was better for them to seek treatment in the UK rather than in the US and possibly have 7 hours of severe tooth pain.

Once take off has started then it's really too late to do anything about it. In which case it would take a real medical emergency (including a call to the VS medical advisors) to turn back or divert.

Thanks. It is 16.07 and still on th ground. Never really experienced anything like it. I am bemused but some people are visibly annoyed,

Really just posting as someone usually asks why flights are delayed or turn back. Not a Turn back as such but left gate and then went back which Must be unusual.

I would think that usa dental Treatment on insurance would be better to uk having had both USA and uk private treatment i would go,USA personally.

Yes, but consider how many people undertake overseas travel without appropriate travel insurance.

The pressure changes can aggravate certain dental conditions (and some dentists will advise against air travel for a few days after an extraction) so I guess they thought they'd play it safe.

Allegedly they boarded with the tooth already damaged, they had consulted a dentist who said they were ok to fly. Again allegedly they then changed their mind and asked to get back on.

But that was only the start. Arriving late into Boston USA immigration refused To let the flight disembark as immigration was too busy. In the end it was only 10 minutes but then 1.5 hours in the hall (and we were at front) to get through.

To add oil to water they kept making announcements saying cars were waiting, transit passengers required etc etc. only 3 desks were open for non USA citizens. I imagine the back of the plane were 2 hours plus.

Finally left airport at 8.30 local time and we were 1st non USA through, the carousel sat full and stopped with everyone's bags on it but no passengers.

I do hope that tooth man is feeling well again. I also hope that virgin contact Him and tell him about the chaos he caused and the families with babies stuck for 2 hours in a hot queue.

Sounds like a very frustrating experience and even worse to get to BOS and be held as well.....bet everyone couldn't wait to get off.

How was the service on the flight?

It was to take them back to the terminal. They went down mobile stairs. I saw them getting off. I imagine it was the only secure was to drive them and bags back to the terminal. It was more of a g4s mini bus.,

Should have made them walk the 'walk of shame' dragging their suitcases behind them, all the way back to the terminal whilst dodging taxiing aircraft. I'm going avoid general comments on G4S and their ability to manage things other than that providing a minibus, kind of sums them up.

I guess the family tried the getting back on trick after the VS ground staff told them that they weren't going to be re-booked.

Sorry to learn of the massive inconvenience that resulted on arrival; tooth family, hang your heads in shame.

Why is this an issue for G4S?

I can't see any reason for you to criticise them.

Looks like they did what they were contracted / asked to do - provide transport to get the pax and bags safely back to the terminal.

They are not responsible for persuading pax to get back on (or not).

Tonty

I'm not criticising them in the provision of the minibus, or being responsible for persuading pax to embark or disembark.

My point is that they have a chequered history of not delivering on what they have been contracted to do.

Also, my comment of 'the walk of shame' was not meant to be taken seriously, what with airports being, generally, pretty dangerous places.

Strange how you say you don't want to get into a 'G4S are rubbish' debate yet go on to criticise them for past misdeeds which aren't relevant to this thread.

Except in this instance they did provide the minibus (and no doubt the luggage extraction as well) and pretty quickly too by what the OP says.

And nowhere did I suggest that the pax should walk across the tarmac - it was something you did !

Tonty

OK; G4S have been, sometimes, rubbish at delivering the goods in the past.

Today, G4S got the pax and luggage off the aircraft in a timely manner.

Yes; nowhere did you suggest that pax should walk across the tarmac; it was me that suggested 'the walk of shame'.

I'll look forward to meeting you on Thursday and, no, I won't be bringing bread rolls. :)

Ha ha, amusing... I'm with NV on this one. It would make for amusing reading if that fellow and family would have done the walk of shame, figuratively speaking. Perhaps a lap around the aircraft, before the suggested run and dodge along the tarmac, as opposed to sat at the UC bar :P (tongue out smiley indicating sarcastic comment has been passed)

Teeth probs can be very painful and annoying if left untreated, I wonder why he didn't get it sorted before going away. Oh well, his loss on holiday, and perhaps a hell of a fare too if no insurance.

I empathise with those delayed, have done the massive waits in immigration queues before... not a pleasant experience and when I had just done them would have easily taken out my frustrations on those I thought responsible.

According to the DM G4S are 'evil' for their failings, therefore they must be as culpable as the devil for the problems of the world :P :P

Good to hear all worked out Barnaby, despite the wait y)
