Have read that VA are upgrading all FC reds to silver don't know if silver card members will get any kind of upgrade

Where have you read this? I am aware of a partner offering to upgrade your FC account to silver, which is seemingly open to anyone, but it isn't being done automatically to all members and the offer expires today.

Sign up by 31 May 2013 to take advantage of this great offer by clicking the relevant link below.

You also have to be a member of the IoD (Institute of Directors)

So it's not a general offer

Yes, but it doesn't appear anything is checked or valudated before the upgrade happens and going on previous similar type promotions it isn't something Virgin seem to police or check so I doubt it will cause any issues.

This confirms something I've heard elsewhere - so many Gold card holders are walking away from Virgin - especially after raising the requalification levels - that they are resorting to these sort of measures to rebalance their scheme....

Ah well. not good. But I'm about to go Platinum with EK :)

Is this legit? And by that, I mean are Virgin going to turn around and cancel it? If so, what would happen then?

We have the same deal at my company, and as far as I can tell there's no way for Vigin to cross-reference the data so pretty much any man and his dog can become Silver...Alas, I've left Virgin (I'm Au) behind, I love them, but they offer me pretty much nothing in terms of redemption of miles living in San Francisco, the daddy here on that front is United and the Star Alliance. Plus I do over 60 domestic segments a year and many a time they're not served by VX.

I seem to think something like this happened a few years ago, maybe a different offer, but think everyone's membership was reset after a few days. ?|

Yes, your account numbers old and new will still post to your account, I've had about 8 different FC numbers and never changed the one on my AmEx account and my miles still post without issue.

great stuff, thanks. One more thing is it worth changing my number on my next UC flight to cancun. will i get the extra miles for being silver or will it register against just the red from when i purchased?

Cheers

Yes this happened before and must have been a good 3-4 years ago. I did the same and had my Silver membership for a year.

Yes, but it should be automatic, the flight earning will be based on your status at the time of the flight and not when it was purchased.

I've just done this. I then logged into my FCC account and noticed my tier points were at 0!

I'm guessing it will be treat as if you have just hit the required limited to move up to Ag and your new FC year starts from today so you have been reset to zero.

You have obviously taken the upgrade which you probably aren't entilited to and I'm guessing you didn't fully read the T&C's, so not sure you can really have much complaint.

In the grand scheme of things, the Loss of my tier points aren't of great concern. Had it been my miles, there may of been a few tears!
