Hi,
Getting close to the 90 day seat selection so I am looking for a bit of advice for our flight back from LAX on the A340-600.

Looking at booking Seats 18 A and C. Have looked at the seat ratings and no one has commented for a couple of years.

If you have any experience of these seats, is it a good place to sit? and do you get a nice window view? Am hoping its not half a window if that makes sense!

Thanks..

18A/C are very good PE seats, however you won't be able to select these in advance, as they are bulkhead seats and are only allocated on the day at the airport. They are also kept back for special assistance pax or pax travelling with babies if there are any, so they aren't the easiest seats to get.

I would personally go for 20 or 21AC now, and then ask when you check in if 18 is available still.

18 AC are good for legroom and quick exit, but they are subject to a fair bit of noise and light pollution from the galley. I used to think that the bulkhead advantages outweighed that, but on one flight I actually moved because I was finding the constant curtain opening and closing quite annoying, to say nothing of that strange spaceship noise (ovens? garbage compactor? what is it?) :)

The allocation of row 18 on the A340-600 appears to be totally random, with no clarity whatsoever available from airport staff or the VS Facebook team as to how the people who sit in them are chosen.

I personally would have no problem at all with them being reserved for pre-allocation by Gold FC members, and then left to the rest if unallocated come OLCI.

y) This is correct -- you get all kinds of explanations and there is little consistency. I should add that having a gold card has made no difference whatsoever to my attempts to get row 18, and (as per previous post) I don't even bother any more.

The one time I asked I was told that they were reserved for Gold Card members being op up'ed from Economy on a full flight. Never bothered since but always been happy with row 20 or 21.

I've chosen 19A for my VS200 in September and will be getting to the Airport super early and hoping that my charm, smile and AU card will win the check in staff over and bag row 18 for me.

Fingers crossed.

i recently flew in seat 19A on a night flight back from LA - whilst it doesn't have a window - there is a half window slightly in front (blind contolled by 18A) - this was not a problem as for most of the flight i was either asleep or watching the IFE. Again being a night flight there was not too much noise from the galley or light creep from the curtain neither of which disturbed my sleep.
