Evening all!

Although my flights to South Africa aren't for another ten months, I am one of 'those' insane over planning people who has to have everything planned and sorted months ahead!

I fly VS UC LHR-JNB on the 17th April, transferring to a SAA flight JNB-CPT the next day.

I am taking out two suitcases (and one hand luggage) which is OK with the Virgin flights but I cannot find a definitive answer whether I need to book an additional suitcase for my SAA flight. I'm flying Economy so do have one suitcase anyway ... just would like to get it sorted so I can forget about it. ii)

I have phoned both SAA and VS customer services and they have both told me to phone the other or check the website. I've checked both websites and they just link you to the other website! Or maybe I really am having a bad day!! :P

Has anyone had the same experience?!

Thank you!

Are these on separate tickets or one?

All the flights are on the same ticket. VS CS did tell that my luggage won't likely be booked/checked through to Cape Town.

Happy to book additional suitcases and have asked SAA CS for my booking reference for that part of my trip in anticipation!

You will have to clear you bags through customs at JNB as this is your first port of entry into South Africa
After leaving the customs hall, there is a baggage re-check desk just for SAA pax.
It is just on the left before the main exit doors. Recheck you bags here and it will save you lugging them all the way to the domestic departures terminal.

If you are travelling in EC on SAA then you allowance is one checked in bag no more than 23Kg, plus 1 carry on:

See here: https://www.flysaa.com/gb/en/manageMyTr ... ggage.html
23Kg

Excess baggage info here: https://www.flysaa.com/gb/en/manageMyTr ... ggage.html

Hope this helps.
