I'm flying AMS-LHR-YVR, BA Club from AMS and VS Upper from LHR. Does anyone know if I will be able to check my luggage in at Schiphol through to Vancouver without having to collect it in LHR?

Will I be able to follow flight connections within LHR or have to collect luggage and get over to T3 to check in again? Any idea of the quickest route through LHR from T5 to T3 if I do have to check in again?

Thanks for any help and advice you can give me!

I presume the flights are on the same ticket? If so, you will be able to check your luggage through to YVR. The first time I did an ex-AMS flight my bags were being tagged all the way through to SFO but I asked to check them only as far as LHR preferring to re-check them there. The reason for it was that I wasn't convinced that they would get into the priority bin and thus be one of the first out. From what we saw on Airport Live last week, seems I was right!

I assume this is all on one ticket?

Yes you will be able to check them through.

Yes you will be able to follow flight connections. Have personally not done T5 to T3 - there is a good flight connections page on the LHR website you can look at.

As you will be able to do OLCI for the entire route you won't have to check-in again.

That was interesting re the separate hold for transfer bags. I (maybe wrongly) assumed that as they were putting other things in that hold like pushchairs, golf clubs etc that they actually empty that hold first, thus meaning your bags would be out priority even if you weren't flying UC.

You do sometimes see random bags coming out first on the carousel, so maybe this could explain what they are.

On my AMS detour I simply left my main bag with the left luggage office in T3 and just used hand baggage. On my return, hopped on the Heathrow Express to T3, collected my bag and checked in for VS.

This way I kept baggage priority and knew it had made the leg.
