Hello all,

First posting and I think this is a question that might have an obvious answer.

I am a AU member and my membership runs out in November. So I went ot the VA website and found a flight to Orlando in Economy at the end of November where I got 17344 miles and 6 tier points (just the number I needed for renewal). These tickets were a X code fare out and O code back. So I booked the flights, I know that X and O code fares are normally 2 tier points. But since I booked it with what was on the screen, should VA honour that booking.

Oh, and it states the same miles and tier points in my 'Future flights' at present. Also, I have checked online again today, and the mileage and tier points are available for the same flight again.

Dates are 22nd Nov - 29th Nov.

Also my out bound flight this month is now saying 3 tier points where as before it was 2.

Y, B, R, L, U, M classes should be the only 3 point classes in Economy.

Unless VS is looking to keep hold of passengers, as I have noticed since the Delta merger, Delta are slightly cheaper by £50-£100 per person.

I must admit, some of there web pages are well out of date, as there is one still stating you only require 30 pointsto renew gold. There web team could do with a good kick up the back side.

But this extra tier point has only happened in the last few days.

gumshoe wrote:A mistake surely - should be 4 TPs for a discount economy return, 6 for full-fare according to this: http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/fr ... /index.jsp

Will they honour it? They should, given that it says 6 TPs elsewhere on the website. Only one way to find out I guess ...

I have sent an email to the Customer Liaison Manager. He is very quiet at the moment.

and yet according the VS website Tier Point page it is 2 TPs each way....

Inconsistent advice ?| Never ii)

Only option is to give them a call for confirmation but from past experience it will be 2 TPs each way unless they have changed the rules.

Hmm...

I think the rules may be changing. The earnings calculator now does return 6 TPs for discount economy fares.

I see the inconsistency that joey pointed out, but my guess is that they've updated the calculator but forgotten about the other references.

An intriguing development...

Just check all my bookings includin the ones in Feb next year, they all include the extra point. Have a bit of a two and fro conversation with a VS manager. but I beleive if I booked it with the points, which to a point he has stated, I sould get them.

But Ecomony Lowest is the only one to change its tier points.

Considering it had been like that previously, I would say they are not really thinking down the avenue on what is fair in the eyes of the consumer gumshoe.

My guess is that they are going to be rewarding people more for flying on the VS metal as opposed to 'cacheing in' flying around on DL routes, hence only lowest fare economy getting a bump for the time being.

Another thought that has just bounced into my brain is whether or not this could be a sign of things to come.... VS looking at their FF and TP earning structure for a bit of an overhaul perhaps ?|

Got to love a bit of conjecture in the middle of a Monday ii)

Sorry guys - I meant to post this this morning but it slipped my mind!

Effective immediately, there are new earning and redemption levels/tier points for VS Economy Reward bookings.

All levels of Economy tickets are now eligible for 100% base flown miles / tier points. (Silver/Gold bonuses still apply of course)

Any reason? Is it anything to do with the DL JV? And any plans to do the same for PE and UC (as buying a discount PE fare, in particular, has suddenly become less attractive).

That's all I know at the moment I'm afraid! I'll see if I can find out more and let you know.

Interesting indeed, as Gumshoe says, a discounted PE seat gets the same tier points as ANY economy seat. I wonder if all PE will get 4 per sector now?

Just so people know, if you try to book a flight now in Discount Economy it is back down to 4 tier points. But at present all bookings I made while it stated 6 tier points still state it in my 'Furture Bookings'. Luckily, I have an email from a VS Customer Liaison Manager stating I will get the 6 tier points. I will be holding him to that.

I saw this thread a few days ago and thought I'd try a dummy booking to see, and it was 4 TPs for discount economy. I was going to post something but I saw that pashmore has done. I guess that they are still working on the little details
