Anyone know why Lady Penelope dropped into St John's enroute home from JFK yesterday?

I'm on the VS46 tonight so curious to know.

I guess that is most likely. Not somewhere you'd wish to be stuck for any time.

Agreed.

I spent a couple if weeks in Newfie whilst on a big tour if Canada, and had a great time. St. John's is great, and the scenery nearby is awesome!

I can think of FAR worse places to have to put down in!

Agreed - we spent 24 hours in Goose Bay a few years back on a diverted LGW-MCO flight. A fascinating experience mind - from flying low over the tundra to land, de-boarding a 747 on steps into -20degC, to dinner at the captain's table in the hotel (you don't often get to do that on a flight!). Obviously we didn't get our hold luggage (crew included) and of course everyone was dressed for Orlando...shorts aren't quite right for -20degC!

As an aside the crews handling of the situation was amazing and is a key reason I have flown Virgin ever since.

OK OK so it sounds like I did St Johns a dis-service. I knew it was good for Humpback whales but it seems a highly desirable stopover destination for numerous other reasons.

Mind you, I am still trying to imagine how a 747 full of Orlando passengers can be so well accomodated around a single table for dinner. I guess if you eat cetateans you need big plates AND big tables :)
