After travelling upper class on a pretty good deal last year I was hoping to do the same this christmas. I see premium economy for $1500 and upper for $2700 - with two of us thats $2400 more - too much.

Ive been reading and researching what i can but I think I can buy the $1500 premium ticket (would this be h class?) then upgrade to an S class (how much would this cost) and then ultimately to a G class?

Or I can buy an S class ticket now for $1800 and hope I can upgrade to a G class - potentially throwing away $300 each ticket if i cant?

Im sorry, im sure this is such a noob question but im a little confused.

I also think i have to pay a monetary cost aswell as the 20,000 miles to upgrade? is this correct? and what is it likely to be? travel would be from IAD to LHR

Thanks!

Hi and welcome to V Flyer

The search for Upper Class Reward seats is of course the "Holy Grail" of many a VFlyer (myself included) and if any of us had a sure fire way, we would have published a book to recoup our skills ):

Getting G fares during the Christmas Holiday is an added complication as it is the time everyone wants to travel, so it is understandable that airlines want to maximise their revenue.

I have achieved it by booking a S PE seat and checking every day to see if G seats had been released. This meant at one tags Mrs Buns was travelling in Upper and myself in premium, but as flight day drew lose, I was lucky
