I regularly fly out of NYC on a Friday night and on the return leg, Virgin Upper Class is typically 2-3x more expensive than BA Club World even though they both have a similar number of flights. Am looking to book two trips in Q1 2014 and it's the case both times.

As much as I want to remain loyal to VS, that sort of differential is hard to ignore - is there a reason for it? If both were similarly (highly) priced then I'd understand it (as it's obviously a peak time to fly back).

Have just found out I've achieved lifetime FC Gold so it would ironic if this was also the moment I started to choose BA over VS, with the tier points no longer relevant to me.

BA appear to be having a mini CW sale at the moment, so may appear much cheaper than VS. I think you need to book by 5th Dec for the BA sale.

If you live over East London way, look at the CWLCY flights from BA, they are a lovely way to travel.

Thanks - I hear that City option is good (though once I'm sat in my seat I can't imagine wanting to disembark within an hour). However I live 30mins from LHR so it's not really any advantage.

Looked to me like BA had a LOT more flights right now, about the same as VS+DL - and this is not including the 4 AA flights a day. It may flat out be a load thing - VS fills more, or at least sooner, since they have fewer flights. Which doesn't change the fact money is a consideration, just offers partial explanation for it.

you only have the stop over on the LCY-JFK leg not the overnight return.

It IS an excellent service and even on the westbound the stop over lets you clear pre clear immigration at Shannon which is a big plus...however being so close to LHR means its not that great for you

If you gave got lifetime gold it might nit be a bad idea to save money and book with BA. You will then have status with two airlines and the advantage to be able to use one world lounges as well as VS and presumably the Skyteam if VS joins. One other thing the LCY attract first class tier points even though it's a CW flight
