America West Expects "Significant Losses" in Third and Fourth Quarters
America West Airlines yesterday reported record traffic statistics for the month of September 2004, but warned that the airline expects "significant losses for the third and fourth quarters. The airline cited a weak yield environment and the "extraordinarily high" price of fuel for its forecast.
"We are pleased to report a record load factor for the third consecutive month as more travelers are selecting America West's outstanding service. Unfortunately, yields remain under severe pressure as our industry continues to struggle with excess capacity," said Scott Kirby, executive vice president, sales and marketing.
