Question about upgrading.

Ok, so I know this is probably repetitive so forgive me in advance.

I have already booked a ticket from LAX->LHR for March. I purchased a K fare in PE before I realized this wasn't upgradeable.

I would only like to upgrade the departure leg of the trip to UC. Is there anything at all I can do? Or is it absolutely impossible to upgrade a K fare?

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Again

You can't upgrade a K fare with miles in advance, it can be upgraded with cash however.

If you do want to use miles, then you will need to upgrade your outbound K to a S then use miles. It is best to call VS to get all the price information.

Would it be best to just wait until I check in at the airport to request the upgrade? or would that be unwise? In your opinion what would be the easiest way to get the best deal?

Waiting until check in isn't really the best way. Not only might there not be any seats available, and if there are then you don't get much choice with where to sit. You will still have to move to an upgradable fare code, and there then might be no S fares left and you have to pay to go to the higher W fare.

The best deal is the one you are happy with. It's really hard to say when the best deal will be available, it all depends on seat availability, and prices are constantly moving.

If you want a miles seat, then all I would say is that they aren't always easy to come by, so if you see one, my advice would be to not let it pass you by if you really want the upgrade. Obviously it will depend on the cost to upgrade to an S.
