I am stopping off in new york on the way home from orlando and I am looking to book some transfers from jfk to the hotel. I found one which is a mini van for $160 return for the four of us.

I just wondered if anyone could recomend a transfer and how long does it take to get on average from the airport to manhattan? we land at 6pm on a friday night and I now have a feeling it might be a long drive in.

on the way home we are flying out sunday evening at 7pm. does sunday have easier traffic?

That price sounds about right. I use Carmel Limo usually. They have an iPhone app and will get you a car in a few minutes most of the time.

It'll take about 45 minutes to get into Manhattan but can be more if the traffic is particularly bad.

The other option to look at is uber - not used them in the states yet but their fledgling service in Manchester is great.

I have always saved a bit of cash and used the subway. The air train from the terminal at JFK will take you to Jamaca station and connecting on to the E train will have you in to Manhattan for a total of around $7.50
($5 for the air train and $2.50 for a single on the subway)

I have always found this fairly easy but have always stayed close to a station on the E line.

Just had a look on the Uber app and they have three options from JFK - uberX (small economy car), Black (bigger fancier car), SUV (6 people).

They do flat rates into manhattan, $85 + tolls for a Black which should be plenty big enough for 4 people. That price includes tip so is probably about the same as you've been quoted.
