Apologies for my simple queries, but still getting my head around how you upgrade to PE with miles. I get that I need at least an 'M' grade EC flight, but am trying to figure out what the cost difference is likely to be between this and the 'lowest fare' option.

Example - If I were to book a return now MCR - MCO economy in March 2015 (just released) - I could get it for £557.19 (X FARE)- but the flexible fare comes to £1713.19 (code Y). So I am guessing that the M is somewhere inbetween.

I read on another post, that the fare I need would be somewhere close to the lowest PE fare (£1035.19 - K fare), but I must be missing the point, because why would you not just book the PE fare?

Please can someone give me a rough idea of how much extra the M fare is to the X ?

I usually shop for M's when also looking for G's as I find using miles to go to Upper Class is a far better use of the miles on a cost basis. If I was satisfied with PE two K fares would be about the same as two M fares, so I wouldn't use my miles anyway and just pay for PE or not.

I've recently bought two returns to MCO from Gatwick for next year. I think the upgradeable ticket was just over £700 each plus £100 taxes for two. I've paid £1550 and now have two PE tickets.
Another £100 in tax and I've bagged UC on the way out. Still hoping for UC on the return.

Yes, but probably a lot nearer the X than the Y.

Quite! Actually it probably wouldn't be quite as high as the K, but once you've added the extra taxes & fees for the upgrade it wouldn't be too far off.

Bear in mind also that the M is more flexible and less restrictive than the K. If you think you may need to change your flight after booking, it would be cheaper with an M than a K.

If you were to use miles to upgrade from an M into Upper Class, however, you would save hundreds of pounds. That's their biggest advantage.

At a guess, for your flights, around the £750-800 mark (as Dick D paid).

So about £250 less than the PE fare - you'd need to call to be certain though.

But yes, air fares are a dark art. It's not in the industry's interests for us to understand them!

Not enough time in the CH on the 1 for me now it's changed timings , had a strangely good experience on the 45 recently so I'd plump for that , put your foot down !! Lol

I did try, his response was..."you and that bloody clubhouse!"

The 45 is a 747 so I think that might change his mind! :D

We're on the 45 next Tuesday, though JFK is not nearly so convenient as EWR for us, but like you Blacky, we hate the new timings for VS1. And can there really ever be any doubt that the CH is a major part of the experience? I'm just about counting the hours till the fizz flows.

M is upgradable with miles. K is not (except Flyingco company miles)
