I flew out on the VS15 last Tuesday.

When I landed at MCO, and was through security and immigration I realised I had lost my purse. The last time I had it was at duty free in LGW.

I went to the Virgin desk and asked them to check the flight for it and they said it wasn't there. I phoned them again a few hours later, no joy :(

The following morning I cancelled all my cards, lodged a missing item enquiry with LGW and thought I'd said goodbye to the small amount of cash in there too. Fortunately I had other cash in another wallet.

Today my dear husband, who arrived Friday, said, just give Orlando another call just in case it's turned up. Low and behold it had actually been found onboard.

Now I fully accept responsibility for misplacing my purse, however what I can't understand is that when, not only had I made them aware of the loss, but my FF Au Card was in my purse along with my driving licence (the old style with address on) and all my telephone numbers home, mobile and abroad are listed on the account along with my email address that they didn't contact me.

I did ask and she said, 'didn't someone try to call you?' - well no obviously not :(!

Sorry rant over and feel a bit better for getting it off my chest :|

I've left (and lost) several items whilst flying, both in the airport and on the plane. It can be confusing as to where you need to submit a claim, especially when you don't know where you've left it!

Airports have their own Lost & Found systems independent from airlines. Either way, it sometimes takes a few days for them to find, transport and log the item in the proper location and computer system(s). Obviously, for credit cards and other personal information, this can be a tedious wait.

I do find it weird that they did not proactively contact you, but had you filed a formal request via the lost and found page on VS website? or did you contact the airport team at MCO?

I'm certainly glad it all worked out, despite having to cancel all of your cards. I've left my phone sitting at a charging station at LHR and somehow it still managed to make its way back to me :)

Thanks, I emailed a lost form to LGW but in the US there is no email facility just telephone numbers.

However, I had spoken to two members of staff at Virgin check-in (one was a Manager) and followed that up with a telephone call a few hours later when I spoke directly to MCO airport.

I rang the US number (listed in your link) again this morning and was connected to the UK where the gentleman then phoned LGW and MCO airports for me. This is when he told me it was found and to go to MCO to collect it.

The lady who returned my purse couldn't understand why I hadn't been called either, I even have an ansaphone on my US number and the airline have called and texted my mobile many times over the last few years when a flight has either been cancelled or delayed.

As I said before, I do accept responsibility, it was my own stupid fault but a little common sense would have saved quite a few days of my holiday spent worrying.

Oh, and since the incident I have bought myself a nice little Michael Kors over the shoulder small handbag purely for cards and cash which will not be leaving my person when travelling.

Every cloud .....

A good bit of retail therapy helps I find. However, shoddy CS really and one has to question if you would in fact have got it back had you not called that final time, you just never know.

These days I'm a bit OCD about ensuring my wallet etc is secure in my hand luggage until I actually need it.

A few years ago my partner and I and another friend were passing through security at LHR and as you do, emptied pockets etc into the trays going through the scanner. When he then stepped through the scanner it beeped prompting the search and by the time he got to his tray, the wallet had been been stolen, right from under the eyes of several security personnel! There'd been a guy in front who had just gone straight through without a problem and obviously stolen the wallet during the fuss. I learned then that the staff are only interested in potential threats etc and don't pay the slightest bit of attention to who is emptying which trays after passing through the scanners. Nor do they accept responsibility for what happens to your property whilst it is temporarily separated from your person.

We alerted the staff, followed by police and got the usual crime number, I phoned and cancelled my partner's cards. There was a substantial amount of cash in sterling and euros in it too. After getting sorted we went to board the flight and a short while later were called back to security as the wallet had been found in the gents toilets. Cash obviously gone, but now full of useless credit / debit cards! Thank goodness he wasn't travelling alone and therefore was able to access some cash.

Since then I've made sure we both put wallets, phones etc inside our bags at security and always keep an eye on where my tray is and who has access to it. Can't trust ANY of the security personnel to take an interest.

So that's my moan / two penn'orth.

last year I failed to clip my watch strap properly after MCO security.
I noticed within a few yards it was missing and went back.
No sign of it on the ground where I put belt shoes watch etc. back on and staff said they hadn't seen it.
I wrote it off as lost and on return to UK bought another to replace it.
I did send an email off to MCO lost and found and a week later my missing watch arrived in the post.

Lost iPad two weeks ago in VS 21, left on seat (PE 787) while packing up to deplane. Realized it soon after and checked at IAD with VS staff but no joy, even with filing lost claim and return phone calls. I know the response will be "well someone else nicked it as they came off" but in thinking it over, I tend to think while that is possible, how likely is it on a window seat, set down, clearly ready to retrieve by owner? It wold have to be pretty quick thinking on the part of a passenger, and a bit nervy as everyone emerged into the gate together. In my experience flight crew do an immediate sweep of seats after passengers leave before deplaning themselves and that is prior to cleaning staff. I have in the past seen a crew member chasing passengers down as well as hearing announcements in the baggage hall.
I know it's 'just' an iPad but surely this must be a frequent occurrence--is there a lost and found for VS or do things go into the general pile for IAD?

Slightly off topic, but a couple of years ago packed an extra shoe in my carry on case [it was a bet] and so going through security/x-ray unpacked laptop and shoe, removed my belt, coat and shoes and place all in tray --- on other side, put shoes and coat back on, repacked laptop and left one shoe in tray --- we thought it would be really funny for staff to be looking either for a one legged man or a man with just one shoe, the tray and shoe remained at end of the conveyor for possibly 5 minutes before a member of staff just removed shoe, placed it under desk and carried on with there business, all a non event and didnt engage conversation or interest 8D
