Thanks to everyone on here passing their wisdom and experience, if it wasn't for this website I'd never have been able to think of using miles to upgrade...miles to upgrade don't be daft?

Well I've just bagged 4 g fares for me and simon for next year for our trip to NYC and Washington!
And as all you pros point out it helps to be flexible with dates.

I'm very happy with myself right now! :D just a bit lighter on the miles.

So thanks to everyone who contributes to this great forum.

Blacky, we're on the vs009 going out...much much later than the original vs001 simon wanted but I'm happy with more CH time. I sweetened the deal by saying we'd have an extra night in NYC or Washington. |:) it's all about compromise and planting the seed! i)

Fabulous news. Bagging 4 is quite remarkable. I know how you feel having bagged 2 last November to NYC.

Enjoy the countdown!

Great to hear your news Darren ,as long as there's enough time in the trip it's always best IMO to have a good few hrs in the CH but i do understand that if people are on a tight trip then it's best to get there as early as possible .
What are you thinking 3/4 days in each city ?

Congratulations. Arriving a bit late into NYC- does it matter? It is, after all, the city that never sleeps. ;)

Thanks all.
Personally I think getting in to NYC a bit later will be easier on the jet lag.
Arrive, taxi to hotel, quick shower and out to eat a big steak and then off to bed...wake up on NYC time next day. On the vs003 in September it really hit us mid afternoon and we struggled to stay up past 10pm!
It's a 747 going out, one of only 2 that day (I know that could change). A 330 coming back so I'll get to experience the UCDS!
It'll be nice to experience the clubhouse after 12pm for the first time, we're not on any time restraints so we can get there as early or as late as we like!

I was thinking 5 days in both blacky. y)

Just to throw something else into the mix Darren have you thought about 2/3 days in Boston while your in that neck of the woods , don't know if you've been before but I think its a lovely city ,if your 10 days is fixed maybe take a day off each of the others ,just a thought ;)

interestingly the UC booking rep told me that Boston G rewards were usually one of the best availability. We have booked 4 x in each past 2 years period and always get 4 Gs there and back easily.

That's a handy tip to know. I've found Boston far more enjoyable and easier for connections to upstate New York in recent years - sometimes NYC traffic is just a tad much :)

Funny you should say that, as our dates aren't fixed apart from arrival and departure we just started looking at other places. I think we will possibly break it up more as we were in NYC in sept.
I thought we'd fly down to DC, I've been told we will be catching the train! That's me told! B) :|
(plant the seed..."oh but if we fly we would have tier points and miles! Watch this space :w )

It does feel great but my partner is the type of person that would say "why did you play those numbers" if I won the lottery!
I honestly don't know why I try...maybe I should make him fly economy! :D
